Community Highlights: Meet Alexandria Rodriguez of klōn Apparel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Rodriguez.

Hi Alexandria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The idea for klōn started in 2018 in my kitchen. I had just competed in a fitness competition and didn’t feel like I “fit in” or “fit the mold” that was fitness. I was proud of myself for competing but I kept having the feeling of defeat, and lack of purpose, and I still didn’t feel like I was worthy to be a “gym chick.” As months went on the feelings only intensified.

I would buy workout gear that I thought would help me feel better or give me motivation. I couldn’t keep buying $150 leggings and the $20 leggings weren’t cutting it either. So one night in 2018, I had enough. I decided there had to be a better way to not only help myself but help others not feel this way. I began to look up the companies I liked and brands that others liked. I created a business plan and began to get my ducks in a row to see if I could actually make this happen.

Once I decided to “go for it,” I reached out to my friend Minaz. I had met her doing a different fitness competition. I asked her to do this crazy thing and start a company with me and she said yes without giving it another thought! From there we were able to really dive in. We created not just a brand but a tribe and culture of like-minded individuals who want to empower, uplift, and motivate themselves and those around them.

We came up with the name klōn because we want to clone the fitness industry but make it inclusive, accepting, and fun. We believe that you should live a happy and healthy lifestyle, whatever that means for you. You don’t have to be shredded to be considered “fit.” You can live a life of passion, and purpose, and do it in a healthy way!

While we want others to feel welcome and empowered we also want to make sure that we have quality products at an affordable cost. We don’t think you need to pay over $50 for good-quality workout gear. Today, klōn is able to reach thousands of people that are just like us!

We continue to promote body positivity and a happy healthy lifestyle.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We have had our fair share of challenges along the way, trial and error. Experimenting with different fabrics and manufacturers.

Each challenge and obstacle, as frustrating and tear-jerking as they can be only help make us better! We love to experiment with different styles and fabrics to know exactly what our customers want and need. We have had to fire manufacturers because their quality wasn’t there.

We have had to refund hundreds of orders because the fabric didn’t hold up. Through all of this, we have found what works and we are able to continue to move forward and grow!

We’ve been impressed with klōn Apparel, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are dedicated to offering quality apparel for EVERYBOOTY at an affordable cost. Unlike our competitors, we have made quality meet affordability while encouraging body positivity and size inclusivity.

We are a tribe of badass individuals whose goal is to build ourselves up while building up those around us.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always creating, singing, or dancing. I was given the nickname “flea hopper.” My sisters and I would make up dances to our favorite songs and put on a whole production for our family to watch.

I played sports and eventually stuck with cheerleading through middle school and high school. I have always loved being part of a team and I have never fit into any one group, I had friends from every type of clique and always wanted to make people around me laugh.

I used to get in trouble in school for my loud laugh in class, I have always been loud and energetic.
