Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Wulff.
Hi Allison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started making TikToks with my friends for fun when the app first became popular. I really didn’t know what I was doing. It was just a fun thing for my friends and me to do when we were bored. My TikToks ended up doing well so I gained a small following through the app. During this time Covid hit and people weren’t really leaving their houses.
It was the first time I think any of us have experienced anything like this so it was all very new to everyone. People were really bored I think and a lot of people had trouble occupying their time. My best friend Britney and I went to the craft store and bought a bunch of stuff to make jewelry. We had no idea what we were doing but we did it anyways. We got home and made some necklaces, one that I wore on my neck for months. As I continued to make TikToks people were constantly asking me “where is your necklace from?” A lightbulb clicked in my head and I started Warewulff.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business always has its complications and risks but you have to remind yourself high risk = high reward. I have not only learned so much about myself, and created new passions and life goals for myself, but have also learned so much about business.
One of my big struggles was caused by the 2021 global supply chain crisis. I couldn’t get my chain (like literally a jewelry chain) and I had to scramble to find an option that would still provide me with a high margin. You really learn to problem solve under pressure which is one of my favorite parts about the job.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Warewulff?
At Warewulff, I sell handmade jewelry and vintage clothing. The company is mainly known for its jewelry. I take a lot of time when deciding what a piece will look like.
I am very involved with the customers and check up on them after they received their items. It is important to me that if someone is going to spend their hard-earned money on something I made that it is worth it and they love it.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a great mentor is very important when you are looking to start a business. I am grateful to be surrounded by a lot of people who have been helpful.
My advice for someone looking to find a mentor or network is don’t be shy. It sounds silly but really, cold email people, Instagram DM people, do whatever you feel like you need to in order to get into contact with someone who you look up to and who could help you. I always tell myself, what’s the worst that can happen??
