Community Highlights: Meet Jazzy The Mindset Coach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzy The Mindset Coach.

Hi Jazzy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story has many chapters. I will begin at a pivotable point in my life. In 2005, I became paralyzed as a result of a rare auto-immune disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The paralysis extended from my shoulders to my toes and parts of my face. I was a 26-year-old single mother with two children, both under the age of five. My condition was severe, and the prognosis was at least one year before I would regain function.

There is no cure for this disorder. My options were treatments, care facilities, therapy, and above all, time for my body to heal itself.

As you can imagine, I lost my job. Because I lost my job, I lost my apartment. I could no longer physically and financially care for my children. They were sent to live with my sister. I went from the hospital to a nursing home. From the nursing home to a rehabilitation facility, and ultimately to my parents’ house.

All of this occurred within a 3-month time period. I beat the odds of my original prognosis. The greatest lesson during this experience was to know that I am greater than my circumstance. I began to really question my purpose in life. I had to really go within and decide who I desired to be. It was a process, but I was able to learn who I am and to see how remaining positive has its rewards.

In 2009, I began doing something that I have loved since a child, writing poetry. By 2010, I was performing in front of an audience. Not only was I performing but I was loved by the crowd. From there, I performed at music venues, weddings, fashion shows, schools, workshops, TEDx Talk, and a list of other places. I even recorded poetry CDs, videos, and wrote books.

In the midst of my poetry journey, I tapped into another passion of mine. I am passionate about empowering, inspiring, and uplifting others. In 2013, I became a certified holistic coach. At that point, I had literally turned my gifts and passions into my profession. I wrote books (poetry and self-help), I had coaching clients, I created workshops, and online programs, and recently held my 1st-weekend retreat.

I have gotten to where I am today because I made a choice. The main decision was to no longer allow fear to dictate and sabotage my purpose. I had to become who I desired to be. The entire time, my entire life, it was my positive words and positive mindset that had been impactful for myself and those around me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road.

It’s actually daily progress to maintain an open mindset, to be resilient while staying true to myself. I have had some dark moments of doubt, confusion, and frustration.

Along the way, I’ve had to create boundaries and even disconnect from people and situations that affected my well-being. I’ve had to be okay being uncomfortable with my own feelings while coaching others through theirs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Mindset Tribe was created in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is when I really got serious about my coaching profession. I had been an entrepreneur, but not a business owner. So much had occurred during that timeframe and I knew my services were needed.

Mindset Tribe consist of Mindset life coaching, healing methods (energy work and meditations), and consulting. I am known as Jazzy- The Mindset Coach. My mission is to guide clients from a limited (closed) mindset to an expansive (growth) mindset by shifting perspectives around fear, self-worth, and limiting behaviors.

The purpose is to create results where my clients become more confident, empowered, and transformed into better versions of themselves. Mindset Tribe LLC has helped shift the perspective of I can’t to I will. I offer 1:1, group coaching, and learning materials.

I have an amazing coaching program and workshop called Uncontrolled Goddess. I am most proud of this platform because this is my journey- the transformation. It began as a book and grew into a movement for women all over the world.

The Uncontrolled Goddess program has a huge impact by providing a safe space for women to be themselves without judgment or feelings of being alone. I am honored to have held my 1st retreat. The Uncontrolled Goddess brand is in the process of traveling to different cities for Transformation Workshops and Retreats.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very shy, timid, and fearful. I have always had a calm, loving, and positive demeanor. Looking back, I had been life coaching since I was a child. I would give advice to all my friends.

I would make friends with people who didn’t have friends. I always wanted to help and be supportive of my parents, siblings, and friends. Writing and poetry have been a part of my life since I was eight years old. I loved to doodle and draw (still do). Creativity has always been a part of my life.

I never saw myself as I ended up becoming. Honestly, I thought I was going to be a nurse, a teacher, or a dancer. Yes, a dancer. I was too scared to dance in public, but I knew I had it in me. It took me a long time to come out of my shyness. I still have a quietness about me.
