Today we’d like to introduce you to Tryphena Wardlaw.
Hi Tryphena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in London and raised in Los Angeles, California, by two incredibly supportive parents. After getting my BA in English journalism from Chapman University, I was a little lost but figured I couldn’t dislike something until I truly try it. I tried several career paths, like really all over the place. I have worked for Luxottica (sunglasses), Audi, a real-estate investment firm, and a CPG start-up. When I worked for the tech-enabled start-up, I realized a 9 to 5 would not cut it for me; I loved the start-up environment and the creativity it inspired in me.
At the time, my good friend, Alex Valley, was running a CBD company, and I was helping him in my free time. I hadn’t tried CBD before because I did not know enough about it. But after trying it, I knew there was a lot of money to be made. So when Alex decided to start his own company, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to jump aboard. So I left my corporate job (despite my parent’s reservations, haha) and put my savings into helping UNITY get off the ground.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Would I change anything? Hell no! Would I do it again? Hell yes!
The thing about the CBD industry is that it’s constantly changing, and therefore you have to roll with the punches. There are many roadblocks, but you have to figure out how to navigate around them. It can definitely be overwhelming at times, but there are solutions to every problem–some less ideal than others.
As a company, we have taken risks on product SKUs that just ended up costing us thousands of dollars; but we kept our heads above water and pivoted. (insert Friends meme, haha).
My day-to-day is never the same, and for that, I am grateful. I now view every mistake as a learning experience, and because of that, I have learned more in the few short years of owning UNITY than I ever could in another work environment. You just have to FIO (Figure it out).
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
UNITY is more than just a brand. It’s a movement. While that’s a lot to tout, we are just getting started.
One of my favorite parts about owning UNITY is the relationships I have made along the way. I have struggled with mental health my entire life, and by owning a company that champions it, I have been able to talk about it more openly and on a larger scale. It has opened the door to the conversations that were once viewed as taboo.
That’s why when creating UNITY, we really wanted to encapsulate the benefits of CBD, and we didn’t stop there. We fortified our products with adaptogens that are known for aiding in the battle against mental health. I am proud to say that I reap the benefits of the products I sell. I might be biased, but we also have the reviews to prove that our products are the most effective on the market. We contain more CBD and adaptogens than anyone else in the market. That’s worth celebrating!
What’s next?
We just launched our newest flavor, Blood Orange Hibiscus and the feedback has been phenomenal thus far!
But because the industry is ever-changing, we are constantly improving our products and developing new product SKUs. If you can’t adapt and stay relevant, you will get lost in the mix. I am so humbled to get a front-row view of the ways that UNITY is expanding and taking its well-earned place in the industry. Stay tuned for some new products coming soon. 😉
Heck, if a worldwide pandemic can’t stop us, nothing can!
