Community Highlights: Meet Sheri Rowney of Harmonized Brain Centers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Rowney.

Hi Sheri, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My interest in LENS Neurofeedback started many years ago after my nephew suffered a traumatic brain injury during a baseball game. My brother and sister-in-law spent many subsequent months and years trying to find a treatment that would help my nephew overcome the effects of his injury on his brain.

They heard about LENS Neurofeedback, went to see a specialist who used it, and were so impressed with the results they started their own LENS Neurofeedback office in Colorado Springs. I, too, was astonished at the effectiveness of LENS and the progress and improvement it had given my nephew, I decided to train to become a LENS Practitioner. That was in 2015 when we opened our offices in Nashville.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obviously starting any business is difficult. I did have the help of the local PURE Living Magazine, run by my husband, to help promote what I was doing. But we also tried all the normal ways of advertising, with mixed results.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We help people with a variety of conditions: Anxiety, Depression, Concussion, PTSD, and many more.

Our primary method of treatment is LENS (Low Energy Neurofeedback System). We have found LENS to be the most efficient and cost-effective Neurofeedback system available for our clients.

LENS Therapy (LENS stands for Low Energy NeuroFeedback System) has been in constant development for over 25 years and is now available at some 1000 practices throughout the USA and abroad. Over one million clients from infants to the elderly, and even pets, have received treatment.

Harmonized Brain Centers in Nashville opened in 2015 and has seen and helped hundreds of people, administering more than 40,000 LENS sessions. We are one of the busiest and most successful LENS practitioners in the USA.

We pride ourselves on making the time spent with us an enjoyable, comfortable experience. Our offices are deliberately welcoming, comfortable, and distinctly ‘non-clinical’.

We spend some time talking about what issues and concerns clients may have and then you will be seated in a comfortable chair for the treatment.

At the end of your first session, we will have completed a ‘Brain Map’ collecting feedback from 21 points across a client’s brain. We will discuss what this map reveals and how we will treat the different areas of their brain in subsequent visits.

On average, clients can expect to see results quickly, some people feel changes after the first visit but most see significant, lasting changes within 10 to 12 treatments.

Unlike other forms of Neurofeedback therapy, you don’t have to physically do anything during the treatment itself-no heavy caps, or interactive video training.

Like any business, the best recommendation that we are ‘doing it right’ is the number of referrals we get from our existing clients, introducing friends, relatives, and work colleagues to our services. We’re now getting around 30 referrals a month, so much so, we are taking on a new therapist to cope with the influx of new clients.

We also offer a complementary range of other services, all centered around developing and keeping your brain and therefore your whole body healthy and working at maximum performance.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe we make our own luck, as the famous golfer Gary Player once said “The harder I practice, the luckier I get”.

As a cancer survivor (twice) and having undergone triple bypass surgery three years ago, some might say I’ve been unlucky.

But if you view these kinds of setbacks and problems as challenges rather than obstacles, you begin to make your own luck, reach new goals, and just keep moving forward until you’ve achieved what you set out to do.

So far, I’m delighted with what we have done at Harmonized Brain Centers. There is no greater thrill than seeing a client who at first was in the depth of depression, 10 weeks later smiling and saying he is ready to take on the World!

Or a child with ADHD, failing at school, coming in after a series of treatments showing me his report card with ‘A’s and ‘B’s on it.

That makes me feel lucky to be doing what I do.
