Conversations with Alannah McCready

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alannah McCready.

Hi Alannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I grew up in Minnesota, which is the state of hockey, so naturally, I had a love of hockey from a young age, but my mom is from Oklahoma, so simultaniously, I had a love of country music from her. Growing up, I played hockey, sang full time, and tried to merge the two as often as possible. I would sing the national anthem before hockey games and then play etc. I always knew a music career was ultimately what I wanted for my life, so once I graduated and finished my college hockey career, I started focusing on music. In 2012 I had the opportunity to come to Nashville and record professionally for the first time. And from that moment on, I had the reassurance that this was what I was meant to be doing. I moved and have been making music professionally, full time since.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The music industry is a complete roller coaster. You can be on top of the world one day and the lowest you’ve been the next. I think you must try to stay mentally tough to navigate it because it is a roller coaster, but it is also a marathon, and you will never stop learning. Things will go wrong, and things will go right, and learning to adapt and never give up is the key to overcoming obstacles. This industry is never a smooth road, haha. I have often thought about going in a different direction with my life, but I am very fortunate to have the support of everyone around me, reassuring me it is worth it and what I am meant to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a contemporary country singer/songwriter here in Nashville, TN. I have been a singer/songwriter for the last 9 years and just released my 3rd independent project; an EP called Back To Me. Although I have been in this industry for a long time, I am just recently finding exactly who I am as an artist and songwriter and putting out music that is the most relatable and transparent as I ever have. I am not your typical female country artist, I have a lot of soul in my voice, and I have no twang, but I love country music, it is my life, and I am so proud to be a strong female country artist today. I am most proud that through the years, I have not wavered in who I am as an artist to try and fit into a box that we are told will make us successful. I am proud I have stayed true to myself.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
