Conversations with Dustin Sellers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Sellers.

Hi Dustin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2024, Dustin Sellers debuted the alias “Sad Bachelor,” an alter ego derived from a sorrowful past riddled with devastating loss and heartbreak, and his redemption through perseverance and mettle. A life-shattering divorce launched Sellers into a spiraling journey of depression, anxiety, and isolation, compounded by the trauma of back-to-back losses. The alter ego “Sad Bachelor” emerged as Sellers entered each new chapter of pain and despair, unable to escape the glaring reminder of mortality.

Ultimately, “Dustin Sellers as Sad Bachelor ” tells a story of devastating grief, profound resilience, and wearing survival as a badge of honor. Sellers is no longer “sad” or a “bachelor” but the alias serves as a catalyst for reflection on his triumph, and a reminder of the healing power of music.

The first single from upcoming album “Dustin Sellers as Sad Bachelor” is called “Hide Your Head.” It is a dialogue between a devoted lover and a heartless soulmate who turned her back on unconditional love without a trace of empathy or accountability. This is one of many stories told on the album coming in 2025, and is a continuation of the storytelling you can find in all of Sellers’ previous works. Explore the themes of heartbreak, loss, resilience, love, and innocence throughout Sellers’ entire discography.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The new album “Dustin Sellers as Sad Bachelor” tells a story of devastating grief, profound resilience, wearing survival as a badge of honor, and serves as a reminder of the healing power of music. The new album shines as a musical recovery piece of art that served Sellers as a therapeutic outlet through a divorce, the loss of a parent, grandparents, three beloved dogs, and a girlfriend that died in a tragic train accident outside Nashville. The redundant losses piled up quickly within a few years, but Sellers used the trauma as fuel to write and compose songs.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
“This album was created from loss and sacrifice. But I hope it helps others gain new prospective on trauma and a healing strength through this music.” Dustin Sellers

The album portrays sonic exploration along with visual elements featured on the vinyl record that captures the image of the “Sad Bachelor” character as a classic gentleman with a past life of loss and mystique. The song quality of the album encompasses a variety of radio friendly 90’s influenced rock alongside intimate and orchestral singer songwriter pieces that borders on “rock opera.”

The new album teased 3 singles. The first single, “Hide Your Head” has a head bobbing riff and stuck-in-your-head melody that also features an eye catching full length music video which launched Sellers image as “Sad Bachelor” and personifies a movie-like romance gone wrong. “Leave Your Light On” is the second single on the album that has become a fan favorite and the most streamed song on the album so far. The third single “Fall Down” introduces a musical shift in the album that opens the door to a emotional soundscape. Other songs on the album such as “Sweet Revelry,” “The Wrong and the Right,” and “Running” showcases expanded production with orchestral instruments and conveys the emotional depth in the songwriting.

With added support from Mishi Records for distribution through The Orchard Dustin Sellers is actively growing streams and views, and gaining fans throughout the U.S. and internationally. “Dustin Sellers as Sad Bachelor” is charting airplay on independent and college radio through Tinderbox Music for exposure in the U.S. market.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Its always a risk to put your art out into the world. Especially in Nashville where “everyone is a songwiter/musician.” But the seasoned experience, writing, performing, and in the studio gives me strength and confidence to share my music. Not only as a release and purging of songs, but to also help others relate to loss, trauma, and overcoming those things.
