Conversations with John Hitch

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Hitch. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I moved to Nashville in 2007 after growing up in central Kentucky. Following graduation from Western KY University, I worked for a major television network. It was safe and stable, but being there for 10+ years, it had become stale, with little opportunity for growth. After my first daughter was born and my wife wanted to quit her job to stay home, we decided to make a five-year plan and change things for the life we wanted. Real estate seemed like an exciting way to venture into a new industry. I got licensed in 2015 and worked nights and weekends with a team until 2017 when committing to real estate full-time. 

Now I’m an individual agent at Benchmark and just finished my biggest year yet, with 37 transactions totaling just over 10 million. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, nothing about the real estate business is smooth. The most difficult part is starting your process. Where are you going to find business and leads? Once you start to find clients and working deals, you then have to worry about inspections, appraisals, lenders, and everything in between. No two transactions are ever the same and there are a million variables involved in every deal. It can be difficult to juggle sometimes, but it is an exciting career and one that I never get bored of and that always has something new right around the corner 

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
There are almost 5,000 realtors to choose from in the Nashville market. I’m not a “salesy” guy. I’m not going to be the loudest in the room. I don’t consider it my job to “sell” you on a home. My job is to be your expert, your guide, your navigator to helping you purchase or sell one of the biggest assets of your life. I don’t take that role lightly, and I always aim for what’s in your best interest. From start to finish, I want you to always feel like there’s an open line of communication, availability, and knowledge on my end of the industry and local market. I want you to feel heard, valued, and understood. Sure, some realtors can offer you a large team that they are a part of. With me as an individual agent, you will always know what you will get. I don’t have to stretch myself to manage others or focus on team building. My main goal is giving my clients consistent and predictable transparency throughout the whole process. They know they can always reach me, and I’ll always shoot them straight. 

What’s next?
No big changes. I love the rhythm that I’m in now. I will continue to service the clients that I have and grow my database from referrals and new leads and gain efficiencies along the way. The Nashville market is extremely hot right now, and I look forward to continuing to ride the wave!
