Conversations with Kinsey Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kinsey Paul.

Hi Kinsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve worn many hats within the beauty and fashion industries… I got my start in Atlanta as a clothing designer, specializing in custom women’s special occasion dresses, gowns, and swimwear. Not long afterwards, I moved to Miami to further my career as a designer and stylist, working mainly with artists, record companies, and in the entertainment industry. I lived there for about 7 years and had so many wonderful opportunities and experiences. It was during my time here that I founded and grew my first business (an online woman’s clothing boutique), YERAbrand. The “YERA” in YERABrand was in memory of Yerusalem “Yera” Gebregiorgis, one of my best friends that I lost unexpectedly and suddenly in 2010. YERA also stood as an acronym for what I felt represented my clothing: youthful, elegant, retro artistic designs. In 2016, my (now) husband’s job relocated us to Tacoma, Washington. During my time there, I was offered a management role with Tom Ford. When I applied for this role, I was under the impression that it was a stylist/fashion job but during the interview was told that I’d actually be representing the beauty and fashion houses of the brand. My time at Tom Ford expanded my love for all things luxury and beauty, I had always been a makeup and beauty enthusiast but during my tenure here, I learned so much that it eventually led me to extend YERABrand beyond fashion and custom clothes, to also offer makeup services. As YERABeauty grew, I started booking a lot of weddings and I was also still being sought out to design wedding dresses, prom gowns, and bridesmaids’ dresses. It sounds corny but I literally fell in love with working weddings- the excitement of being a part of such a momentous and important day, the look on the brides’ face when they see themselves for the first time after getting makeup, the ability to work at beautiful, elegant venues and meet so many exciting and diverse people from all over the world, and the sheer magic of it all. Had I never moved to Washington, I doubt that I would’ve started doing makeup or working weddings. It’s crazy how life leads you to places you never imagined. I decided that I wanted to refocus and have bridal services (styling, hair, and makeup) as the core of my brand. Although I will always have a love for fashion and clothing design (I made my own wedding dress), it didn’t excite me in the same way anymore and I felt called to focus more on weddings and beauty. Fast forward to January of 2020, my husband’s army career moved us back to the east coast. I was already in rebrand mode with my business, and also trying to navigate our cross-country move and rebuilding clientele in our new home. Two months later, the COVID outbreak happened and the world shut down. Being a small business owner during this time was scary and unpredictable, but it also afforded me the much-needed opportunity to re-set and re-strategize. I had the time and freedom to think and rebuild… for the sake of not making a very long story even longer, I’ll just summarize that a lot of spiritual and emotional growth happened- I was able to asses myself and my business which led to me re-branding YERAbrand to 11:11 Concepts. We moved to Nashville in August of 2021, and I’m proud and grateful to say that I hit the ground running as soon as I got here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So many struggles and learning curves but the challenges are what make for strength and wisdom when it’s all said and done. Because I’ve been doing this for so long, I’ve had many challenges and tests- anyone doing anything new or risky will face challenges. It’s life. The key is to take the lesson and apply it moving forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
11:11 is a full-service image consulting brand specializing in hair & makeup for weddings & special events. In addition to beauty services, 11:11 concepts also provides image styling & custom designs. 11:11 represents the brand’s vision of celebrating individuality and personal style through creative, luxurious experiences, products, and interactions. I’m most proud of my ability to provide a service that provides me the luxury of working all over the world and meeting so many diverse, interesting, and exciting people. Me being my authentic self and having that show through my work is what sets me apart from others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Good luck has been present in my work, my experiences, my business, and my whole life. Even the name of my brand reflects this- culturally, 11:11 as a global symbol of good fortune.
