Conversations with Smalltown Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Smalltown Hollywood.

Hello Smalltown Hollywood, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I moved to Nashville and attended Belmont University. While attending school there and taking courses for music business & finance, I would post singing/rapping videos on social media. In 2019, I posted a video of me rapping a remixed version of “boys” by Lizzo and called it “Girls.” The next morning after I posted it, I woke up to 100,000 followers on TikTok and a video with 5 million views. This was one of the first trends I started and it skyrocketed my career on social media I started branding myself to mashups, remixes, and other fun tiktok trends. I’ve gathered a following of over 2 million followers in the past two years and average around 1 million views a week across social media. My fanbase has been asking for original music since I started and in January of this year, I released my first song that led up to my full EP release “HEATSTROKE” that dropped last month and landed itself on big editorial Spotify playlists like Varsity bars, fresh finds, and fresh finds pop.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s hard getting massive success on socials and then going through a slow season… especially when that slow season lasts longer than expected. I’ve had videos blow up to 20 million views and then the next 6 videos don’t perform at all. In the influencer industry it’s easy to let the performance of a song/post/video affect your state of mind. The way a post would perform would literally affect how my day would go. In order to do well on social platforms, you need to be incredibly consistent and post high quality content. Doing that all the time can take a toll on a person if they do not know how to properly take a break. It’s easy to let my business life seep into my personal life because what I do for fun is also what I do for work.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a social media singer/songwriter. I post videos of me singing, rapping, producing, and joining in on popular trends on tiktok, Instagram, snapchat, Spotify, etc. I specialize in making viral videos involving music such as remixes, mashups, covers, etc. The tiktok post I am most proud of would be the mashup that I released December of 2019 that has 25 million views and the song that I am most proud of is my song HEATSTROKE that landed itself on a ton of editorial playlists. I think the thing that sets me apart from other content creators or musicians would be my innovative approach on posting original content. I am always researching trends and studying what music is popular and how I can apply my brand into it.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I am currently making the switch from social media influencer into an original music artist. In the past 6 months, I have averaged 20,000 monthly listeners and have released a new song every 4 weeks. The genre I am currently doing is pop punk and will be dropping a song every 4 weeks leading up to my full EP.
