Daily Inspiration: Meet Ashley Owens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Owens. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Ashley Owens of Black Sheep Goods is a Nashville native who has always had a love of crafts. After having her first son, she discovered tapestry weaving which sparked the idea for her DIY tapestry weaving kits. Wanting to explore more mediums she discovered a new fun way to dye clothes with ice. Ashley’s trial and error eventually turned into the fun ice dyeing technique she uses to create one-of-a-kind clothing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having a child and starting a business is definitely hard but extremely rewarding too. Being a mother helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my life and turns out it’s playing with yarn and hand dyeing clothes!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Ashley of Black Sheep Goods creates hand-ice-dyed pieces. Ice dyeing is a form of dyeing where instead of rubber bands, ice is applied to the piece, and then the dye is on top of that. 24-hours later when the ice has melted, it ends up creating a one-of-a-kind watercolor pattern.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Ashley was always the curious one, the one who beat to her own drum. Hence, the name Black Sheep Goods. Always creating and doing crafts, especially on Saturdays after watching the Carol Duvall crafting show.
