Daily Inspiration: Meet Courtney Hanson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Hanson.

Hi Courtney, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
We will try to time-lapse my story! Looking back if you were to tell me I would be an organic eating, yoga instructing reiki master and author I would have laughed at you and walked away back to my wine. My childhood growing up was not ideal, as so many of us have experienced. I went to over 5 schools, lived in 4 states, structure was not in my vocabulary. I came from a very broken home and was desperate to just be loved. I became pregnant with my first son at 21 and my life was forever changed. At the time I worked for MTV as a makeup artist traveling quite a bit and decided it was time to slow down.

I met my husband when my oldest was 9 months and had my daughter at 27 and my youngest at 32. When my son was born at 32 weeks, he had to spend time in the NICU, and with having the hormone drop of having him so early, having a c section and my husband leaving for months for a fire academy promotion I was struggling deeply with postpartum but didn’t want to tell anyone. I wanted to be strong. I was the rock and glue I couldn’t come undone at this time of our lives. I began to self-medicate with wine because that’s acceptable as a mom, right? My two glasses eventually turned into two bottles. I was spiraling and self-sabotaging at a level even I didn’t understand. My past trauma began to flood in from my subconscious and I could no longer cope. I ended up having an affair and almost destroying my marriage until one day the pain became too much to handle. I left to go drink myself to death in a Holiday Inn. I was sick of hurting those I loved, sick of the pain I just couldn’t escape. What happened in that hotel room was quite the opposite of death, however. I had a divine spiritual experience. I agreed to go to see a trauma therapist and for the first time in my life face my past and pain head-on. Fast forward – I fell into a passion of learning about our subconscious and conscious minds, I wanted to know how our brains worked, how we held trauma, how I could become a healer. I had stepped into my purpose. I was designed to empower women to heal and step into purpose but I had to walk through my own darkness first.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road has had a lot of speed bumps. Looking back, I see why the story had to unfold the way it did and the lessons I needed to walk through to be the person I am today. I am not sure I would have said that a few years ago but it all makes sense now. I am a firm believer we are faced with struggles to be able to help others navigate the same but in a more healthy way than we did. To raise the level of consciousness as a collective through love.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most known as an influencer or author. I started my career as a makeup artist which turned to an influencer. I carried on influencing to support me as I navigated through school in my thirties and now, I am a content creator, author, reiki master, and yoga instructor. I work 1 x 1 with women who are on healing journeys to help them learn how to step into their purpose, to help them learn what their passion is and how to truly be on fire for living not just existing.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success but waking up every day with purpose. Knowing you are in alignment with where you are supposed to be. At any point, our lives can pivot and feeling in flow vs. being resistant to that change. When we feel we have come out of that hibernation phase of the cocoon to a butterfly and allowing the wind to guide us.
