Daily Inspiration: Meet Dante Williamson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dante Williamson.

Hi Dante, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a Nashville home steeped in a variety of both imaginative and creative self-expression. My father was a conscious, gospel rapper and my mother a singer and songwriter. Gratefully, I was surrounded with rich sounds like Earth, Wind & Fire, The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Beastie Boys, and Diana Ross. At a young age, I discovered that with music you can see colors, hear tastes and see sounds. Writing classes soon became my favorite in grade school because I could take walks in the back of my mind to form new ideas, images, and concepts. In college is where I learned the art behind converting my writings into speech and spoken word. Shortly after, the genre of Hip-Hop music became my outlet where I turned opportunity into purpose.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not surprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic flipped the music industry on its lid. Whether you’re a consumer or producer, the playing field has changed and you have to adapt. So, I’ve certainly struggled as an independent artist. But as J. Cole says— “There’s beauty in the struggle”. For that reason, I’m reminded the worst thing you can do is nothing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an alternative rap artist/musician creating songs across all mediums. I see and hear my work through a widescreen lens, specializing in catchy hooks, fluid bars and thought-provoking lyrics. I am most proud of my song “Wanna Be With U” because it transcended borders upon its release in January 2021. Not only is the song my most popular with nearly 9,000 streams, but it was played in 46 countries and added to 318 playlists. My art as a whole is ever-changing and I refuse to create the same sounds, which sets me apart from others in the music industry.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d describe my sound as melodic, forestry, blue, dark, and introspective, but would love if you’d be happy to listen and decide for yourself!
