Daily Inspiration: Meet Jeremy Gill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Gill.

Hi jeremy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First off, I am not a very good writer but I am good at telling a story in person. I tried to start writing something but I was taking up to many words. Ha! So I will bullet point and let the proffesonals do the writing. So here are bullet points.

-Degree in Classic Music
-Doing handy man stuff in Memphis this was in 2007/08 so the houseing market was terrible.
-Started doing bigger projects so I got my General Contractors license
-Started Gill design and Construction
-Doing primarily historic restoration in Memphis
-Moved to Nashville to launch my line of Guitars. Gillguitars
-Started building Spec homes instead in East Nashville.
-Focus on Passive solar building. High efficient homes
-Always interested in Archectural Design.
-Changed the name to Gill deisgn co. to put more emphasis on the design work that my company does.
-Looking forward to getting into development in this next chapter. (Net zero community? Maybe? Hopefully!)

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road HAHAH! No it has not been smooth.
Mostly finaincial. 2008 happened, luckly i did not have any money invested in houses. I was only doing projects for other people at that time. Building requires a lot of money to go into a project. If you dont have a lot of money to start with then you risk it all in hopes that it works out when you sell. Huge amounts of stress. Lawsuits, Divorce, Loss of partnerships, the list can go on. Currently the Market is the biggest hurdle.
At the end of the day I can look at what I have designed and/or built and say that I did that and that is fullfilling. Sometimes I drive past the projects I completed years ago and there is a fullfillment in seeing them and knowing that they will be here and be loved by people long after I am gone. You should always be proud of your work, if not, why do it?

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think I already explained what I do and what I specialize in. Proudest project im sending photos of.
What sets me apart is that unlike most General contractors I have an eye for design but also can figuire out how to build it. I enjoy doing the stuff that other wont do.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I dont know, I think maybe just do your craft and do alot of it. Fail alot and you get better and people will notice your work. Be open to meeting people and being interested in other peoples work. Ask questions, lots of questions
