Daily Inspiration: Meet Kendra Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Johnson.

Hi Kendra, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for baking, even owning a small cake business years ago as a side to my normal job as a middle school math teacher. Once my daughter was born, I took a break from both careers for a few years. Enter the ever-long Covid-19 Quarantine of 2020. I had just purchased custom decorated sugar cookies from a friend and said, “hey, I bet I could do that.” After a few YouTube videos and a day of messing around with royal icing, I was hooked.

My friends and neighbors were all so supportive and immediately started ordering. My little business has continued to grow through word of mouth, and I am forever grateful to my wonderful customers!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I absolutely love designing, baking, and decorating these delicate works of art; however, it has taken a while to find a good balance between working and spending time with my family. Thankfully, my husband and kiddos are understanding and patient with me!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I own Sprinkles & Twine, a custom decorated sugar cookie business. I’ve also recently gotten into macarons as well. I am very detail-oriented and precise in my baking and decorating, which sets me apart from a lot of other cookie decorators. Whether customers come to me with a specific vision or simply an occasion, I am thrilled to design a set that captures a personality and spreads joy among their guests.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Corrie and Heather Miracle, AKA “The Miracle Twins,” have been a great influence to the marketing and business side of Sprinkles & Twine. They run the Facebook group, Sugar Cookie Marketing and a podcast, “Baking it Down with Sugar Cookie Marketing.”
