Daily Inspiration: Meet Mani Millss

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mani Millss.

Hi Mani, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I always say radio is a career that chose me. I started out organizing and hosting events on my own, such as fashion shows, poetry jams, and nightlife events, and ultimately became the voice of the city of Columbia, SC.

One day, I received a call that changed my life… an opportunity to be an on-air personality for 100.1 The Beat Columbia, the local IHeartmedia station, and without hesitation, I accepted! Although I did not have any prior experience, I was motivated by the fact that someone believed in me and I worked a day in and out perfecting my craft and figuring out who I was meant to be in that chapter.

I spent days and nights in the studio, trying to find my rhythm and flow, and my hard work paid off very quickly. Less than a year later I picked up another midday show in Savannah, GA, and shortly after that, I went from temporarily filling in at 101.1 The Beat Nashville to being promoted, relocated, and permanently placed to take over the midday show in Nashville.

Since, I’ve been heard on 7 different stations including Atlanta, GA, Indianapolis, IN, and Tampa Bay, Florida. I am also a part of Fox 5 News Atlanta entertainment segments broadcasted live once a month! I also enjoy acting and can be seen in local stage plays.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road.

Starting out, I was offered a part-time salary of only 15 hours a week. As a single mom that was not enough to keep a roof over our heads so I had to work two jobs just to make ends meet until I received my full-time position at 101,1 the beat Nashville.

Just 6 months before the move to Nashville I had a breakdown… confused about my career, and whether or not, I should continue pursuing radio and a couple of months later, I was offered the full-time gig in Nashville.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a radio personality and music director with 101.1 the beat in Nashville. I also track middays in Savannah, Ga M-F & weekends in Tampa Baby, FL.

I just started a podcast, “The Mani Millss’ Podcast” which I’m super proud of and my biggest accomplishment would be being a part of the BET Awards radio room for the past 3 years straight! I think my transparency sets me apart from others because I’m not afraid to tell my story.

I’m not afraid to reach back as I continue to climb and I think that’s why God continues to bless my endeavors. I always think about the bigger picture and how to be the inspiration to make the world a better place!

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Although my family is the most important thing to me I also find importance in creating a balance in being the best mom and wife I can be while also, still being the best me I can be.

Showing my daughters how important it is to still have a life after marriage and children and being that example for my son when it comes time for him to find a wife.
