Today we’d like to introduce you to Martika Phillips.
Martika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started cooking when I left home at 18 because eating out was too expensive. I started teaching myself new recipes but quickly began putting my own spin on things. I noticed that I loved cooking more than anything else I was doing and wanted to learn more about different foods and plating styles. I officially came up with my business name in 2014 and in 2020, I decided to cook full time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been extremely hard in this business, a huge struggle. I’m an extremely quiet person, therefore, I’ve had a hard time getting my name out there to people. Oftentimes, I’ve thought about quitting, but I had to remember that my son is watching my every move and I had to push through.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a cook right out of Mobile, Alabama. I specialize in seafood and Italian cuisine, however, I’m very familiar with all cuisines. I’m known for thinking outside of the box with my creativity. I’m most proud of being able to say I’m doing what I love despite any obstacle that has been thrown my way. The thing that sets me apart from others would have to be my creativity, flavor options, and customer service experience.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would have to say my humbleness and being able to be teachable.
