Exploring Life & Business with Erica Taylor of Let’s Build Financial University

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Taylor.

Erica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
At a very young age, my dad always said, “I want you to work at a bank and learn about money.” My mom worked in corporate so I was able to learn business acumen from her. In high school, I took an Economics course and loved it so much. All of these things combined led me to pursue a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a focus in Finance and Economics. I started my career as a Budget Analyst in a Non-Profit organization and found my passion for making finances simple and easy to understand. I was ecstatic when the managers I supported could understand their budget and make better financial decisions about their programs. I moved on from the Non-Profit sector to a Fortune 500 Company and held various positions. I felt that if I can advise a management team at a global company, I was confident that I could help people at the individual level surpass their goals, especially in the current environment. That’s what inspired me to launch Let’s Build Financial University, which is a basic virtual financial literacy course. The course will help alleviate stress surrounding money management, develop healthy financial habits, and empower people with successful tools to eliminate debt and save.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I want to be very transparent; it has not been easy at all. I had a vision and I could see the big picture. But, when it was time to break the vision down into smart and achievable goals, it was a lot! I underestimated how much effort it would take to launch the course. Especially, when it comes to livelihood of people and involving finances.

Also, I was diagnosed with COVID literally the week before I had planned to launch the course. I was faced with, should I postpone the launch or should I go through with it?? But I made the call to continue with the launch as planned. I wasn’t my best self, but I was able to successfully launch!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Let’s Build Financial University is a simple 8-week success formula, where I show students how I took control of my finances, built an emergency savings fund, saved outside of the emergency fund, and eliminated debt. In order to be a good instructor, I believe you have to be a student first. The course is ideal for those that are in their careers, small business owners, students, recent graduates, or someone that is stressed or overwhelmed about managing money. Ultimately, the student will get clarity on how you can plan a budget, increase savings, and decrease and eventually eliminate debt. After the session, you’ll have a clear understanding of basic financial principles and see your way ahead to financial literacy, empowering you achieve financial goals. There are a few way to achieve success through Let’s Build. 1) Let’s Build Financial Course, the 8-week self-paced course; 2) 1:1 Coaching, this is a more personalized option where I prepare your budget, a spending analysis, and a monthly review; 3) Let’s Build Financial Course + 1:1 Coaching Bundle package.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My answer is two-fold. I love Nashville because it continues to grow in size. That means more diversity, things to do, and better opportunities for some. Usually, great things comes from growth. On the flip side, because of all of the growth, the traffic is insane. I have watched Nashville sprout over the years and sometimes it’s hard to recognize the city.
