Exploring Life & Business with Vasisht (Chef V) Ramasubramanian of The Flavorsmith, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vasisht (Chef V) Ramasubramanian.

Vasisht (Chef V) Ramasubramanian

Hi Vasisht (Chef V), thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I came to the U.S. from India to attend what I like to call the Hogwarts of cooking schools — The Culinary Institute of America. From there, I honed my skills in some of New York City’s top kitchens and later traveled with a restaurant team to Singapore catering for the F1 race, immersing myself in global flavors.

Eventually, I moved to Nashville to open a restaurant for Food Network celebrity chefs. That experience led me to a role as Corporate Executive Chef for a growing Indian franchise, where I helped expand their presence across 60 cities in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

That global journey — and a personal health transformation — inspired me to launch The Flavorsmith and our clean-label brand, Alchemy of Food. What began as a small business selling at local farmers markets has grown rapidly — and just this week, we had the honor of exhibiting at one of the world’s biggest food shows: the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.

Today, we craft bold, shelf-stable condiments using nature’s finest ingredients, including incredible American honey and organic Maple Syrup. We also have operations and market presence in New Zealand where we use NZ honey to make our products.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. One of the biggest challenges I faced was during the pandemic, when I lost my two greatest assets as a chef — my sense of taste and smell. It was a deeply disorienting and frustrating experience that pushed me to the brink of depression. But it also forced me to pause and reevaluate everything — my health, my habits, and my purpose.

That turning point sparked a journey of transformation. Out of it, I founded The Flavorsmith and launched our trademark brand, Alchemy of Food, where we craft clean-label, shelf-stable condiments and sauces with intention, nuance, and integrity — using nature’s finest ingredients to create bold, unforgettable flavor.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Flavorsmith, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Alchemy of Food, we craft clean-label, shelf-stable condiments and sauces that turn everyday meals into something unforgettable — without the junk. We use all-natural sweeteners like American honey and pure maple syrup, combined with bold, globally inspired spices to create flavor that’s both adventurous and approachable.

What sets us apart is our obsession with balance. Every sauce is thoughtfully layered — sweet, heat, tang, and smoke — so it elevates your dish without overpowering it. We believe condiments should be the finishing touch that makes you say, “Wow, I need another bite.”

We’re proud to be a brand rooted in culinary integrity — no fillers, no shortcuts, no gimmicks. Just real ingredients, handled with care. From our Chipotle Maple BBQ to our Mexican-inspired Sriracha, each bottle reflects my personal journey as a chef and our passion for flavor that feels exciting, clean, and craveable.

More than anything, we want people to know: better-for-you food doesn’t have to be boring. Alchemy of Food is here to make healthy taste magical — one spoonful at a time.

Our next goal? To earn a place on shelves at Sprouts, H-E-B, and Whole Foods regionally — and ultimately, in pantries across America.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is integrity — in my food, my business, and my relationships. I believe that good food, like good character, should be honest and real.

Shortcuts and empty promises never last, but genuine care and doing the right thing, even when no one’s watching, always pay off in the long run.

This is why every product we make at Alchemy of Food reflects that principle: clean, trustworthy ingredients, thoughtful recipes, and a commitment to flavor you can feel good about. It’s also how I strive to lead my team and build partnerships — with authenticity and respect at the core.
