Hidden Gems: Meet Porsha Roy of Wandering Wine Glass

Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Roy.

Hi Porsha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I started making wine jelly, it was all about experimenting. Five years in, and I’ve built a business. Beginning as a hobby in 2016, Wandering Wine Glass was officially launched in 2018, selling handcrafted Wine Jellies.

Wandering Wine Glass started loosely with a trip to Europe. It was the travel blogs first, then I started to write my own blog. Then it rolled into different crafts, with wine bottles and corks, and that got me sold at a local festival.

But I really wanted to do something with the wine itself. After lots of research and testing, Wine Jelly was born. And people really loved the Jelly! So off I went! I would sell at farmers’ markets, craft fairs, and festivals. Continuing to build the business; in June of 2018, I started selling online at wanderingwineglass.com and at Etsy.com.

On the website, you can order the Wine Jelly, find my event calendar, see all my retail locations and find lots of tasty recipes.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting your own business is rarely a smooth road. If I take a look back over the last 5+ years that I have been in the Wine Jelly business, Wandering Wine Glass has gotten through all the bumps in the road because of perseverance. Wandering Wine Glass Wine Jelly would not have gotten in over 50 retailers from California all the way to England without it.

It has enabled me to see my Wine Jelly get shipped to 48 states and 5 countries. It has gotten me featured in this publication and others. Without perseverance, I would have thrown in the towel after every slow event or slow sales month. This did not happen overnight, nor did it get a dose of funds from a VC. Blood, sweat, tears, wind, thunderstorms, destroyed tents, and more no’s than I care to admit, have all been part of the journey.

Taken as a lesson learned; not as a reason to give up. There will always be something being thrown in your path, but if your business has shown its value and actionable potential and you really, really want it there is no reason not to pick yourself back up and keep moving up and onward towards all the success you can handle.

Keeping the Wine Jelly as whole and simple as possible is very important to my business.
