Hidden Gems: Meet Shai Ashkenazi of Imperial Vintage Guitars

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shai Ashkenazi.

Hi Shai, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been buying and selling guitars for about 20 years now. I have started it as a hobby from home, selling on the traditional platforms like eBay, and in 2010 Opened my first Brick and Mortar location in the lovely city of Burbank California with my partner Tommy Kay. We now have 3 locations with another one in Sherman Oaks and one in Orange California.

We have dedicated most of our attention to customer service, being straightforward and honest as we possibly can, and it led to our extent network of clients, contacts, and friends we have built over the past decade.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s rarely a smooth road, the more hurdles and obstacles you have in your life, the more lessons and experience you gain. The world of guitars is full of information and it takes time and effort to learn as much as you can. After over 20 years of experience, I am still learning something new every single day. We opened our first location at the height of a global financial crisis but I’m a strong believer that hard work always brings results.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We specialize in buying, selling, Trading, and repairing Vintage and used instruments. We also carry some new brands like Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Manson, and others. The main thing that sets us apart from others in the field is our straightforward approach. We believe that business is relationships and a good relationship lasts a long time. We try and pay as much as we can for used guitars when they are offered to us, and our selling prices are always fair and correct to the current market. We the owners, as well as our employees, are very passionate about what we do and you will rarely to never find us in a bad mood.

How do you think about happiness?
It always makes me happy to have a pleasant transaction. whether it’s a sale, a purchase, or simply a conversation. Everything you do requires some degree of energy and when it’s pleasant, positive, and easy, it just makes it a better day.
