Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Chase
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The idea of Inside Pitch Club started as a casual conversation inside of a BMG writing room in 2022. As producers, we’ve worked with hundreds of independent songwriters over the last decade or so. One common question seemed to always come up, “How can I get my songs pitched?” The truth is, there’s just not a lot of options for independent songwriters. You can hire an independent song plugger if they will take you on and if you can afford it, but that’s not an option for most. Some writers resort to giving up a percentage of their song in exchange for having it pitched (sometimes by questionable pluggers).
We realized there truly was a huge gap in the industry between unsigned songwriters and signed staff writers at publishing houses. There needed to be a way to bridge this gap and give some of these talented independent songwriters a better shot. The reason Inside Pitch Club took over 2 years to go from an idea to a fully operational business is because from day one, we said we were unwilling to be another part of a false market. It took a lot of game planning, strategizing, and calling on our personal industry connections to finally arrive at a place where we felt like we could serve songwriters well by bringing legitimate opportunities to the table.
Now that we’re established, we’re rolling up our sleeves and working hard to fight for our members and their songs. Within only a few short months of being in operation, we’ve secured our writers 2 cuts that are set to be released in early 2025 and have several more songs on hold. We want to be and believe we can be the number one resource for pitching songs for independent songwriters – all without taking a single percentage of the writer’s royalties or publishing!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think educating people on how we’re different from the other “pitching companies” out there is a challenge. Unfortunately, a lot of people have been burned by some less than above board companies out there. While we’re not for everyone, we exist for the serious songwriter ready to compete for cuts.
The reality in this business is that it will never be a smooth road. Our writers are competing against the best songwriters in the world for very limited spots on artist’s records. We have to hold our writers to the same standard as major publishing houses in town or we are doing the writers and the songs a disservice. We have to say no to a lot of songs so that we can say a BIG yes to the ones that are ready.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Inside Pitch Club?
Reputation is everything in this industry and our song pluggers have worked for years to build and maintain theirs around town. They are known for pitching great songs, and have an impressive list of cuts to prove it. Our industry pro panel listens to every song that comes in and then listens again to find the songs that are ready to be pitched. If we believe a song is ready, then it WILL be pitched and it WILL be heard. We also created an opportunity that we call the “Inside Pitch”, which is totally new and unique to the industry. Every quarter, we partner with an up-and-coming, buzz-worthy artist who will choose and ultimately record and release a song exclusively from our member base catalog. This guarantees cuts every quarter for our members, in addition to our normal song pitching.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Sure, we started a company! Haha. We don’t take a percentage of the songs we’re pitching, but we do bonus our pluggers for cuts to incentivize them our of our pockets. Most companies take a percentage so that if a song hits, they have a valuable and sellable asset (part of the song) which can be really substantial. We didn’t want to take a piece though. As songwriters ourselves, we really wanted the writers to be able to keep 100% of their rights. That leaves a lot of potential money in their pockets and out of ours which is why we charge a monthly fee, but in the long run, this is so much more beneficial to the writers and we love that.
