Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kaitlyn Evans-Witzel of Vintage Kaitlyn Photography

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kaitlyn Evans-Witzel. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Kaitlyn, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Although they’re all important, integrity matters most to me. I deeply value honesty in myself and in others. Whether it’s a work or personal relationship, if there’s no integrity, there’s no strong foundation. It’s a waste of time. Integrity guides how we treat people, make decisions, and handle challenges. It’s what allows me to feel proud of who I am and trust the people around me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kaitlyn Evans-Witzel, owner and lead photographer of Vintage Kaitlyn Photography. I’ve been documenting weddings and everyday life for the past seven years. I put a lot of heart, sentiment, and nostalgia into everything I do. I’m married with four kids and two dogs, and our busy life constantly reminds me how fast time moves which is why I care so much about preserving it for generations to come. Right now, I’m leaning into the idea of legacy and memory, and how photographs become treasures over time.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was 26, my Gran passed away, and it completely shifted how I see the world. I was old enough to really feel the weight of that loss not just as grief, but as a deep realization of how fleeting life is. She had been a constant presence in my life, and during the last few months of hers, I tried to spend as much time with her as I could. After she passed, I cleaned out her home and sorted through her things. Holding her belongings and flipping through her photo albums felt sacred. It was overwhelming but also deeply meaningful. That experience solidified my love for memory, legacy, and the sentimental. It made me realize just how much our stories matter and how important it is to preserve them. Since then, honoring those stories, especially through photographs, has become a personal mission of mine.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say that things will get hard as you grow older, but it ebbs and flows. It’s okay to make mistakes you’re human but always rely on God to help you through it. Do your best and don’t be afraid to try something new and don’t allow yourself to feel like a failure if success takes a while.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to preserving memories and family legacies through my photography, no matter how long it takes. I believe every moment is a gift from God, and the stories we hold onto connect us across time and generations. It’s not just about taking pictures. It’s about honoring those moments with intention and love, trusting that what I create will be a blessing to families for years to come.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was real, honest, and loving. That I deeply cared about them and about my work, always putting my whole heart into everything I did. I want them to remember that I showed up with kindness and generosity, and that I did my best to honor God in all aspects of my life. Most of all, I hope they remember me as someone who lived with purpose and brought warmth to the lives around me.
