Today we’d like to introduce you to Donnie Farrow.
Hi Donnie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey, everyone it’s Donnie Lee Farrow CEO/Founder of Donnie Lees Music Services. I got started in the music business when I was young, around 2009 and now I’m in my 20’s. In 2009 even though I was young, I was already thinking about my future. I wanted to do something that impacted people’s lives but also something I enjoyed doing. So I said to myself why don’t I try planning for a career in music.
So that’s what I decided to do, I spent countless days and nights researching how to get in the business. I saw that record labels were doing well and the business side of it seemed interesting. So I did research on how to start a label and found out I could do one online really easily, so that’s what I did. Throughout the years I built connections in the music industry, I had my first child and the first label I had wasn’t professional as I wanted it to be. That’s when I decided to keep the same services I had on my record label and re-brand into artist and brand development, so that’s how Donnie Lees Music Services Came About.
Donnie Lees Music Services a well-established brand has been around since 2009. We Have worked really hard behind the scenes to grow our brand and also to provide everyone that works with us better opportunities in the music industry. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s not always been a smooth road but that’s just how the music industry can be. When you’re working in the music industry you got to stay focused and keep working hard. No matter the struggles you face because the struggles help you learn and grow. They help you accomplish more and do better and the same time. Making mistakes in music is also a part of the learning process.
When I started out in 2009 I was only 13-14 but I already knew that I wanted to live a future of helping others. Also doing what I love. So that’s why I started working in music because I love to help others and I have a passion for music. I know it’s crazy especially at a young age, most people that young are thinking about school and playing. But for some reason, I had an odd since in my mind that I needed to choose a career path and soon at that age. So that’s what I decided to do.
Music just stuck to me because I always was listening to music. Every time I heard a song I was trying to break it down. Between the lyrics and the beat/instrumental (Background sounds). The instrumental always caught my attention on every song. I always would listen closely to hear each instrument played and if any sound effects were used.
I just had a gut feeling that music was the right fit for me. I could go on for months and years about every little detail why. I can say that once you find your passion you will know because when times get hard doing your passion or even the work gets hard. You will want to give up but you don’t because you love it so much! The struggle for me was to keep strong and not giving up.
Sometimes the work gets really hard and you just have to know how to solve an issue or what to do. But at the end of the day, you figure it out. Even if you got to take a quick break to cool down. Give your brain time to relax and think the process through. Eventually, everything will go as planned or even better than you planned.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So what we do is we specialize in artist and brand development. I also run a record label of my own and manage one artist currently. We handle the business aspects of the music industry; branding/marketing and music licensing. We do just about everything between our artist and brand development company and our label. If there’s a service we don’t have yet we do our best to accommodate adding anything our clients/artists are looking for.
I’m most proud of having such a great network of people; to be able to help current and future artists. I built everything we have today from networking with others in the music industry. But also by doing a ton of research on my own as well.
We didn’t have a lot of resources first starting out. It took a lot of sleepless nights to get everything running.
Then when we did we started building connections with some of the best people in the industry. From independent artists that went from 9-5 jobs to full-time self-employed. As well as major industry connections that have reached stardom. What sets us apart from others is that we do this mainly for the artists and our clients to help them achieve their goals and dreams.
Yes, we do it to grow as well but we do most of it for our artists/clients. We treat everyone we work with equally whether major or indie. We love helping everyone the best we can and we’re always honest. We believe everyone should have a chance at success, especially if their willing to put in the effort.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I do music because I love it but also because I want to help others see success. I don’t anyone to feel lost or have no guidance to growing in their craft. I hope to be full-time self-employed in music one day, so I can spend more time with my wife and kids and take them traveling to fun places.
