Life & Work with Kamera Gorden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamera Gorden.

Hi Kamera, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from Jackson, Mississippi. I recently moved to the Nashville area in August of 2021. I have been working as an IT Support Analyst for a company in Nashville since January 2021. It was always my dream to move to Nashville when I got older and just a week after my 25TH birthday I was able to make that happen. My roots started in Nashville, my grandfather was born and raised here, so it is a blessing to be starting where he left off. Although I have a degree in Computer Engineering and pursuing my Master’s in Information Systems, I have always enjoyed arts and crafts. My love for art started in 9th grade at my high school in Jackson, Jim Hill High School. Being in the International Baccalaureate program allowed me to take art all 4 years of high school, I was able to learn and grow and participate in an art show my 12th-grade year. Ever since high school, I have kept this love for arts, during recent pandemic I was able to have the time to dig deep into my artsy world and pick up new hobbies. August 2020 was when I designed my first pair of bedazzled Crocs and I haven’t stopped yet. I design personalized Crocs for customers to fit their personalities. I love personalized gifts so this was very dear to me. In September 2021, I finally decided it was time to start a business for my work, and Kodak Kickz was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been smooth, but that is expected in anything. When I first started, I had to find the right materials in order for longevity of the Croc designs. It took a few months but I perfected my craft each day. The pandemic helped me to be optimistic because I had nothing but time on my hands to get better each and every day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently an IT Support Analyst, on a day to day, I support the infrastructure of a ticketing software. I would say I’m known for my customer service; I strive to provide the best service possible. I treat people how I would like to be treated in any aspect. I am most proud of how far I have come, when I graduated college with no job offers if you told me I would be here today I probably would have laughed like “Yeah, right”. My dedication is what sets me apart from others, once I put my mind to something I am not stopping until I accomplish that goal.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would say my best advice is to get out there in the world to find and meet new people, but don’t change yourself for their benefit. Stay true to yourself and always take time for yourself, don’t get lost trying to keep up with everyone around you, move at your own pace. I feel like the people I look up to most are right in home with me! Such as my parents and grandparents, it all starts at home and the support of your family is always the greatest network needed.
