Life & Work with Rachel Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Davis.

Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started off as a cosmetologist in 2006, and then I started branching into wig development. After that, there was a lot of evolution with my work and I began creating not only avant-garde wigs but also headpieces and full costumes.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t always. I’ve moved around quite often since I started creating and that had its own set of challenges. Sometimes I’d be working with a fold-out table in my living room and other times I’d have a large studio space. I tried to make the best of what I had at the time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a wearable art designer primarily now. But I’m also an avid makeup artist which goes hand in hand with the things I create. I’m also a photographer so I shoot many things that I make on a model for fairytale and fantasy-based photoshoots to showcase my artwork. I create magical works of wearable art for all walks of life.

I’ve had my work displayed in movies, films, on stage, in music videos all around the globe. I think what’s sets my work apart from others is that I have the magic touch for crafting otherworldly pieces that are truly unique and one of a kind.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There is always something to learn and ways to grow as an artist. We’re only limited by what we don’t try to achieve. Everyone has rainy days and setbacks. But sometimes you have to ride the storm to see the rainbow.

  • I do fantasy photoshoots for $250 per look. Subject to what costumes I have available on hand.
  • I do custom headpieces between $250-800.
  • I accept custom costume commissions as well.
