Meet Trisha A. of Unique Braids 615

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha A.

Hi Trisha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
As a kid, my sister taught me how to braid hair. I never thought anything of it, until I got to college. I played volleyball and many of the other sports athletes would also ask me to braid their hair before games and weekend tournaments. This was the first time that I did hair for people that weren’t in my family.

After college, I began working in corporate America and simultaneously started a career in music, as an independent artist/songwriter. Once I transitioned fully into music, I had to hone my beautician skills to be stage/interview ready. I found that it was easier to have a diversity of styles that depended on my own talent and time, versus having to find stylists and work around their schedule. When you’re on the road, it’s difficult to navigate hair and makeup. Using my own skills (and getting some new makeup ones) was my best option.

The opening of Unique Braids 615 was very organic. Friends and family would see my hairstyles and ask for recommendations. When they found out I did my own hair, the inquiries began on when they could book me. After this happening many times, I took them up on the offers, and here we are, years later!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. Pandemic was challenging for everyone, especially people who have front-facing jobs (like beauticians). When we’re doing hair, we aren’t six feet from the client. The challenge to keep staff safe and healthy, while creating a space of safety for clients AND navigate the changes that the pandemic presented, was no small feat.

I appreciate the hurdles because they gave the business an opportunity to grow in ways that it would not have otherwise.

We’ve been impressed with Unique Braids 615, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Braids have long been a styling option to rest hair strands from daily hair care and the potential trauma of styling tools. Unique Braids 615 is a braiding salon that specializes in protective styling for men, women, and children. We feel that you should have the braids and style you desire, with low/no tension. Our belief (and practice) is that neat braids don’t have to be so tight they give you a headache!

What matters most to you? Why?
Our client satisfaction matters most to us. To the client, “that” style matters most, and we treasure the moment we have to make them pleased with our work.
