Meet Wendy McWilliams of Burns

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy McWilliams.

Hi Wendy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
11 years ago, at the age of 48, I discovered painting while I was looking for a hobby because( I was out of work )and needed something to fill the hours. It was an instant love affair.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being creative is not an easy way to make a living. The road has been bumpy and rough, with euphoric moments scattered liberally on the way. It has required perseverance, tenacity, a lot of self-belief, and deep knowledge that I am living my purpose—a long rough road but worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an abstract artist that works purely from intuition. I am self-taught as I came to painting late in age. The thing I believe that sets me apart is that I don’t follow the traditional path. My career has been built almost entirely on Instagram and social media. I am most proud that I am doing what I love every day and doing it my way. I believe I am known as a strong woman that has overcome many obstacles and challenges to live the life of her dreams.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Staying true to myself, hold on when things feel hopeless, and have resilience when I am rejected. I believe in sticking with your vision even when all the odds look like they are not in your favor.
