Rising Stars: Meet Brittany Batson-Paculabo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Batson-Paculabo.

Brittany Batson-Paculabo

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thank you for asking about our story. At Freebird Feathers, this is what we call our “Freedom Story” in which we believe everyone has one inside of them to tell.

My freedom story involves overcoming a low season of hardship and oppression I experienced that was rooted in a place of fear. The season of fear I experienced was gripping and affected many areas of my life including health and finances. I remember praying and asking God to show me how to get out of this and show me what to do. Although thereafter was a series of events that led to my complete healing, the more immediate and relevant revelation was a simple word: Feathers. At that moment, I heard God say feathers.

Now what I didn’t mention is that I had been making feather earrings for personal style many years before in California, since 2011, but upon moving to Nashville, I had packed them away and left that creative calling behind. So when “feathers” came into my spirit, I didn’t question it and immediately began to break out old boxes of feathers and tools, and in turn, it ultimately led me to break free from my next life venture.

I began creating feather designs again, this time not just for myself, but God instructed me to turn it into a business. And little did I know that seeking out one word would unlock the creativity bound within me, continue the healing from the damage of fear, and lead the way to help countless others–not just wear our products but boldly discover and tell their freedom story.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, it has been a smooth road of learning, growing, evolving, and establishing. Established in 2018, we have experienced a tremendous amount of love and support from clients, boutiques, and other creatives.

At each opportunity, we as a brand are implementing strategies and learning what our clients love. The only potential obstacle was during the high season of COVID, which affected most businesses whether negative or positive.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist at heart and my artistic abilities extend to many diverse platforms. Aside from being a designer, I am a singer, makeup artist, and commercial talent. I’m a union member with Sag/Aftra and have worked as a professional and celebrity makeup artist in Los Angeles.

I’ve sung and led worship for many years in various churches and ministry settings as well as industry work where I’ve done background performances on TV shows, theatre performances, and studio work. During my time in LA and Nashville, I’ve done commercial work and am currently represented by a regional model/talent agent.

With a jack-of-all-trades personality in the arts, I would guess that I’m mainly known for worship leading and good relationships in the artistic/music community. But it’s exciting to rise as a designer in the ever-transforming world of fashion.

Regarding the question of what am I most proud of, I’d have to answer with what I’m most grateful for. I’ve learned that gratitude is the key to staying humble, grounded, and taking nothing for granted in life. I take no pride in myself, only that God’s grace has enabled me to do what I do and do what I love.

I love dreaming but don’t chase dreams. I chase the God who gives me my dreams. And in turn, with that perspective and purpose, all those dreams eventually come true.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have many memories from my childhood that I could share, but generally, I remember how close I was to my grandmother. She was like a second mother to me. I learned so much from her as well as my sweet mother, grandfather, and great-aunt.

My grandmother was a sound voice encouraging me to always “be sweet” and keep the faith. As a resilient woman, I believe it was her love, faith, wisdom, and strength that helped develop the root from which I shoot.
