Rising Stars: Meet Jackson Brock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackson Brock.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography is passion, but in the early years, I struggled to create enough business to make it my career. However, after my honeymoon in 2017, I had an idea that implemented photography with a constant and reoccurring customer base. While traveling in Italy, my wife and I were seeing new places and wanted photos of ourselves to remember our experience. However, we were hesitant to ask a stranger to take a photo of us, which usually resorted to a selfie that was mediocre at best. This sparked the idea of a photography business, that allowed travelers to book a professional photographer, to capture special moments, while they were on vacation. In Nashville, where my wife and I live, there are many murals around the city. In one particular area, 12th South, there are 8 murals within a few blocks of one another. I thought that this neighborhood would be the perfect location to host a walking mural tour, where I would take photos of the guests, in front of iconic and unique murals. Currently, I take photos of bachelorette parties, couples, families, or lone travelers while they are visiting Nashville, with the expectation that Nashville Photo Tour will capture a part of their experience and make it more memorable.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This business has had its fair share of obstacles over the years. The spring, summer, and fall are the busiest seasons for our business. During the winter, not a lot of people want to walk around outside getting their photo taken, which is understandable. So, as a business, we have to plan for the off-season and try to maximize the amount of business we receive during the peak seasons. The biggest obstacle we have experienced thus far was during the covid outbreak in March of 2020. We saw almost a 100% decrease in business for several months. However, there was not much we could do at this time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a photographer and videographer. I got started in landscape photography as a hobby about 8 years ago. That eventually progressed to portraits, weddings, and live event photography. Now, I mostly focus on my business Nashville Photo Tour, which brings in most of my revenue. am most proud of being able to do what I love for a living.

How do you define success?
I define success as being able to do what you love for a living. Particularly as a business owner. Every day brings new challenges, but being your own boss provides you with a sense of freedom that can never be quantified with money.
