Hi John, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In the heart of the South Bronx, during the tumultuous 1970s and 80s, a young man named John Henry Soto was born into a world marked by poverty, crime, and urban decay. But, against all odds, he emerged from this crucible to become a celebrated musician and filmmaker. Today, he is not only an artist but also an entrepreneur, running his talent management company, JHS Talent Management. The life and career of John Henry Soto are a testament to the transformative power of passion, determination, and artistic vision.
Early Life in the South Bronx!
John Henry Soto’s story begins in the South Bronx, a borough in New York City that, during the late 20th century, was synonymous with poverty, crime, and violence. Growing up in such an environment, Soto faced numerous challenges, including the lack of access to quality education, limited opportunities, homelessness, and the ever-present specter of crime. The South Bronx was a place where many dreams went to die, but John Henry Soto refused to let his wither away.
Discovering Music… Amid the chaos and adversity of his neighborhood, Soto found solace in music. At a young age, he began to experiment with the guitar which became his means of expression and escapes. He was drawn to the rich tapestry of sounds that surrounded him, from the salsa rhythms echoing through the streets to the hip-hop beats that were gaining popularity in the Bronx. But it was Santana who lit a fire in his soul and drove his passion. This deep connection to music soon evolved into a passionate pursuit.
Transitioning into Filmmaking: As he grew older and experienced a tragic loss in his band, Soto’s interests expanded beyond music as he stepped away from music for a while and found his voice in front of the camera and eventually behind the camera as a writer and director. The South Bronx, with its vibrant street art culture and eclectic mix of people, inspired him to explore other creative outlets and the world of filmmaking was perfect. This new endeavor allowed him to tell the stories from his imagination to actual events in his life. His experiences growing up in the South Bronx provided a unique perspective that he was determined to share with the world. His films have appeared at the Manhattan Film Festival, Tennessee International Independent Film Festival, Phoenix Film Festival, Katra, Cannes, and more…
The Road to Success: Soto’s journey was marked by hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of his dreams. He honed his skills in music and filmmaking, often working with local talent to create meaningful and impactful art. His first independent films and musical projects were instrumental in establishing his presence in the entertainment industry.
JHS Talent Management: In 2023, John Henry Soto took the next step in his remarkable career by founding JHS Talent Management. His vision was to create a platform for aspiring artists to fulfill their creative potential. Along with his business partner Brian Pierce, the agency has quickly gained momentum by focusing on discovering and nurturing emerging talent through a different approach. The purpose of JHS Talent Management is to play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of many artists in the same way that Soto’s own life was transformed by the power of creativity and resilience.
Legacy and Inspiration: John Henry Soto’s journey from the South Bronx to success in the entertainment industry serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless individuals who face adversity and hardship. He is a testament to the idea that one’s background and circumstances need not define one’s destiny. Soto’s story reminds us that talent and determination can overcome even the most challenging of circumstances.

From the gritty streets of the South Bronx to the glittering lights of the entertainment industry, Soto’s journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of art and the human spirit. Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
1. I’m a musician and have recorded 3 studio records and played all over the East Coast. After tragically losing our band members and friends, the band broke up. I needed to find something to put my attention on and that turned out to be film. I studied acting for a year and found a lot of work and opportunities. I then became interested in writing and directing which I’ve been doing ever since.
- I specialize in directing, media management, and managing artists with their careers. I’m known mainly for my film work which has appeared at the Manhattan Film Festival, Tennessee International Independent Film Festival, Phoenix Film Festival, Katra, Cannes, and more….
- I’m proud that I was able to stay away from the dangers of the environment I was born into and help others keep away from those dangers as well. I’m the happiest when I’m helping others.
- My company’s Mission Statement talks about our approach and the way we’re different.

What matters most to you?
My family and friends matter the most. They are the ones that help me stay positive and focused.
With my wife and kids, I’d be lost. I also realized that it’s a motivation for anyone going through a tough time to see someone who was raised in a rough neighborhood with nothing and managed to have a loving family, friends, and a fulfilling career.
