Rising Stars: Meet Kati Hendricks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kati Hendricks.

Hi Kati, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up in Chapin, SC and at the age of 7 came to Nashville to record my first album. In college I studied psychology and music, which have proven invaluable in my work as a vocal performance and rehabilitation coach. Over the years I have been blessed to be considered one of the top vocal coaches involved in artist development and have coached some of the top artists in the industry.

In 2014 I began writing The Adventures of Timmy Tumbully, an anti-bullying children’s book series, and a year later brought actress Tara Hayes on board. Together, we continued the journey of bringing Timmy Tumbully and its message to the world.

After moving to Nashville in 2016, The Adventures of Timmy Tumbully evolved into a Broadway-style Musical and non-profit. I brought Jimmy Mattingly (2-time Grammy-Nominated musician/producer and touring/recording musician for artists including Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Reba McEntire, and Dolly Parton) on board. He is currently working with us in producing all of the music for Tumbully the Musical.

We have tried to create stories that provide empathy, sympathy, and insight in changing one’s behavior to help heal the world from bullying. The stories are personal and represent situations that many people have faced in their lives. Our main objective is to create characters that can channel emotion, invoke change, and entertain.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All endeavors will inevitably have their own unique challenges and obstacles to overcome. These include ones that can be predicted, but more often include things that are unexpected. When looked at through a lens of opportunity instead of tragedy, these “roadblocks” have the potential to help steer the project in new and unforeseen directions and prove one’s fortitude to move forward towards the goal. For Tumbully the Musical, one unforeseen challenge has been the economic shutdown resulting from the Covid-19 global pandemic. This caused us to have to pause all Musical performances, touring of schools, and our YOU BELONG equine therapy camps. We acclimated to the changes in society by creating digital content in hopes of getting our message out virtually, and continue to look for ways to make the books and music available to everyone.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Not only does our project have the potential to be an infinite series of stories, we believe that they have the power to help change the hearts and minds of children and families today. Our non-profit partners with other charities which enlarges our circle of influence and our ability to reach those in need, including animals. Tumbully the Musical combines heartfelt stories with incredible music. We believe that music is truly a universal language, one which has the power to create a bridge of unity between people.

How do you think about luck?
We do believe that there are those moments where you feel that luck (good or bad) plays a part in the journey… but we also believe that perseverance is key, and never giving up is a much stronger force! The energy of perseverance can help us all to create our own luck! We always reach for the stars!
