Rising Stars: Meet Reece Bahia of Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reece Bahia

Hi Reece, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So my journey is a little different to most, born and raised in the UK, I switched career courses at the age of 17 from dentistry to music after winning my school talent show lol! I went on to play Michael Jackson in London’s west end show Thriller Live! And then signed to Virgin EMI records directly by the president at the time Ted Cockle. Then of course Covid struck and knocked the wind out of everybody’s sails. After taking time to reflect on my career and dabbling in screenwriting, acting and modelling I knew it had to be music but I needed to find my audience. Somewhere where I would be unique and could stand out. So here I am in Nashville as the only British Indian country artist on the planet!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! But nothing worth having comes easy. I faced label setbacks, being told I’d never make it at school as well competing in the UK rnb market where I just didn’t feel I belonged. I’m fortunate to have such a supportive set of parents who keep me grounded and committed to my goals. Conor McGregor said that talent means nothing without hard work and I’m a firm believer in this even in the hard days we have to put in the work!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a recording artist. More specifically the only British Asian country artist on the planet! I’m most proud of my work ethic I would say. I have accomplished awesome things such as getting the privilege to play michael Jackson in London’s West End, as well as signing to Virgin EMI and winning multiple awards for my music. But none of that or any of my future achievements would be possible without thick skin and hard work.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is that there is always somebody who knows more than you so staying humble and having willingness to learn and adapt to new things is pivotal in my industry.
