Alyssa Stanford PT, DPT, OCS shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
One of my favorite things about Nashville is all the different coffee shops! Something that really fuels my soul is to catchup with a friend over a good cup of coffee in a cozy shop!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alyssa, and I am a physical therapist! I started my own physical therapy company this year serving the Nashville and surrounding areas. My company is a concierge based business, so I bring PT to people’s homes in hopes of making PT more accessible to my patients. I mostly work with people that I workout with which has been a really fun population for me to work beside. I am passionate about keeping people active, in the gym, and moving!
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My grandmother, Ruth. She is the one who made me realize that my job as a physical therapist is not about my own glorification, but it is about serving others and making a difference in my patient’s life’s. She always taught me to put “Jesus first, yourself last, and others in between” and I try my best to surround my business around that mind set.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to myself, it would be to stop taking yourself so seriously. Live a little. Laugh more. And don’t be embarrassed to get embarrassed! The embarrassing stories end up being the fun laughs that you remember most.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I have had some many amazing mentors since I started PT school and have been working, so I have defiantly relied on their knowledge and wisdom. Seeking out wisdom and ideas from those who are more seasoned that you just help you to be able to further impact your patients lives more significantly. Specifically, I have looked up to Gary Austin who was the chair of the PT program at Belmont when I was a student there. Not only is he wise in the physical therapy world, but he is so grounded and firmly rooted in his faith, family, and friends that you can’t help but learn from him any time you are around him.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I always get so excited when I see someone new for my company! It is so special to have someone trust me with their health, allow me into their home, and be willing to work with me to help them get back in action. When you work for your own business, every singe patient feels more personal. It makes me feel proud to be their physical therapist!
