Amy Phillips of Germantown on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amy Phillips. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Amy, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
There’s a special kind of joy in watching my daughter work tirelessly toward her dreams, pouring her heart, energy, and determination into making them a reality. Each step she takes, each challenge she meets with resilience, reminds me of the incredible strength and creativity she carries within her. Seeing her nurture her own entrepreneurial spirit—building ideas from the ground up, taking risks, and believing in her vision—fills me with pride and inspiration. It’s more than watching her succeed; it’s witnessing her become the kind of person who not only dreams, but dares to make those dreams happen.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amy M. Phillips, I co-own Eye Model Management. Eye is headquartered in Nashville’s Germantown District, with strong ties to the fashion capitals. Eye was founded my myself and my business partner, Fairlight Hubbard in 2001. Eye was created to provide personal support, transparency, and ethical representation to models within the fashion industry. We are renowned for our boutique approach, representing a carefully chosen roster of models that exemplify both exceptional talent and professional potential. With decades of commitment, Eye has grown into one of the most respected and selective model management companies in the South-East. In response to growing demand, Eye is expanding its footprint by opening a dedicated southeast division, Eye Nash, which will be serving talent and clients throughout the region. This local presence allows the agency to foster new faces while offering regional clients direct access to Eye’s high standards of professionalism, reliability, and talent development.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I find that when communication breaks down, bonds begin to weaken. Silence allows space for assumptions, misunderstandings, and unspoken resentment to take root. Without clarity trust fades, and the connection that once felt effortless starts to feel strained or fractured. Transparency, however, acts like a bridge back to one another. Honest, open dialogue clears away confusion, invites understanding, and rebuilds trust. It shows a willingness to be vulnerable and accountable, allowing the relationship to heal and grow stronger than before.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could speak to my younger self, I’d say, “Never compare yourself to others—your journey is yours alone, and it’s not supposed to look like anyone else’s.” This is a message I share with models on a regular basis as it’s a common struggle for most, especially with today’s curated social media profiles. Comparison steals joy and plants seeds of doubt, making you forget the beauty of your own progress. Someone else’s timeline, talents, or successes have nothing to do with your worth. What makes you unique can’t be measured against anyone else, and chasing their version of life will only distract you from creating your own. Trust that where you are is exactly where you’re meant to be, and let your own growth, not someone else’s, be the standard you measure by.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
I rely on my business partner, Fairlight Hubbard’s, ideas because our trust in each other runs deep, built through years of hard work, shared vision, and mutual respect. We’ve grown our company side by side, navigating challenges and celebrating wins together, which has created a foundation where our collaboration feels natural and dependable. I know that every idea she brings forward comes from a place of commitment to our shared goals and the success of what we’ve built. That trust allows me to embrace her perspective with confidence, knowing it’s rooted in the same passion and dedication that drives me.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
There’s a unique calm that comes from being surrounded by family, even in a larger one like my own—being surrounded by my family makes me feel grounded, it quiets the noise of the world and makes everything feel safe and steady. It’s in our laughter, shared stories, and the unspoken understanding that we are all loved exactly as we are. With family, there’s no need to perform or pretend; I can simply be myself. Their presence reminds me that no matter how chaotic life becomes, I have a place where my heart can rest and my spirit can breathe.
