An Inspired Chat with Ashton Butler

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ashton Butler. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Ashton, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now looks like sleepin in a little bit after a late night playing down town. Getting up and shooting of some emails to promote my music and or to book some new venues. Then I’ll relax for a little bit and keep up on the socials. Once it cools down, I head out fishing until the sun goes down and then head home to clean up and head down town to play a show.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Ashton Butler is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter originally from Murray, Utah. Influenced by everything from classic rock and blues to ’90s country, he began performing in garage bands and local competitions before moving to Music City in 2019. Since then, he’s played over 1,000 shows, taken part in countless writer’s rounds, and released original music ranging from blues-driven ballads to country-infused rock. Inspired by artists like John Mayer, Chris Stapleton, and Johnny Cash, Ashton sees songwriting as both art and therapy, living by the motto: “The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will.”

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I think the way that the music industry in Nashville has changed in the 5 years I’ve been here has changed my perception. It’s always changing but I think the music scene and the city have changed so much in good and bad ways.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
I think my idea of “making it” had been changing and evolving ever since I moved to town. The importance of certain things have changed in the last few years. Different priorities.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My music career is something that I have put all of my time and energy into. There is no plan B. Music is the only thing I know how to do.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I feel that I am definitely doing what I was born to do. It’s all I’ve ever known. From the age of six, I knew I wanted to be on a stage and wanted to have a guitar in my hands.
