Catchfire, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
More often than you might think. Surprisingly, the more we work our way down this path, the more we find that being slower and more methodical can actually be a benefit. It’s easy in any field, but especially in the music world in such an active scene as Nashville, to feel like you have to do everything as fast as you can or else you’ll fall to the wayside. But the deeper you look, the more you find that the folks that stick it out are the ones who go steady and put their energy into being the best they can be and feeling good about where they’re at, even if it takes longer than you might expect. If you have something that you believe in that you want to put out into the world, then make sure you’re happy with that journey along the way.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are a hard-hitting, straight-up rock n roll band based out of Nashville. We have lots of different influences and stories that we want to put into our music, and that all comes together in a fiery, unforgettable, high-energy live show. We have lots of new music in the works to be released soon as well, and you’ll be hearing our stories straight from the studio in the near future.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Both of these answers can contain vast wisdom and infinite depth. Music can definitely form bonds between people, especially when they are together experiencing a life-changing live show, and that is what we provide through the medium of Catchfire. When communication breaks down and people stop making the effort to understand one another, the bonds can begin to sever. The only cure for this is to break down the walls that form and re-start the communication, in whatever form may feel right. This tends to be quite difficult at times, but the only way for anybody to get better at it is to simply keep trying. The more we push through those difficult times with each other, the greater the impact it can have when we finally do break through and re-gain understanding of each other. We believe that we have a unique opportunity to help facilitate this communication and understanding for people all over the world through our music.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught all of us in this band many things. All of these experiences come together to enable us to convey the wisdom we have gained and the lessons we have learned to anyone who is willing to take the time to understand it. Suffering is a part of life, and a part of each one of us. But it provides you with the opportunity to either allow that suffering to entrap you, or to allow it to flow through you, learn from it, and put the resulting good energy out into the world.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
We strive to be our authentic selves at all times, even on stage and in every aspect of our music and the journey on which we have set forth. We all continue to learn things about ourselves, what we can and can’t control, what our strengths and weaknesses are, etc., and sometimes this image may vary. But the one thing that remains true of ourselves is that we will continue to move forward and be the best and happiest that we can be, and we hope to share that with everyone we meet on this journey.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
We were born to do this, and we will make that known to the world.
