We recently had the chance to connect with Dori Gronich and have shared our conversation below.
Dori, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I find that creative writing helps me escape from reality in a healthy way. I can spend hours imagining living the lives of my characters. I find myself feeling better after completing a project. I’m currently working on a new poetry book about positive experiences!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I published my first young adult dark fantasy book, Vianna: A Tale of Ashes and Redemption. It took 13 years for me from the start to the finish.
Fun fact: I love guinea pigs and I currently have 2 girls Eggo and Coco!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Realizing no one is immortal and that our time here is limited makes me want to spend my time doing everything I enjoy. The world is scary right now so every with moment I get, I try to see the positive side of things.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I realized that my life won’t last forever. Everyone dies eventually. This thought petrified me as a child. I lost my grandmother to cancer at a young age and this shook my world. Years of therapy helped turn my fears into positive outlets. Knowing we all have a legacy and live on in memories of others helps a lot. I could’ve chose to live in negativity and fear but I overcame these feelings. I’m proud of how far I’ve come.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Protecting our planet. Little things like picking up trash or planting native flowers. We only have 1 home and I hate the thought of humans destroying it. I’ve written poems about the apocalypse and I worry about our planet’s future. Little things add up. The impact we make now will help the future population. If everyone gives up hope then that’s it, but I refuse to believe that humans will give up. We are resilient and I’m sure there will be a solution in the future!
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I do this every day! I can praise myself and I don’t need recognition from others to be my best self. I motivate myself before work by listening to positive music and watching inspiring videos. Just knowing how lucky I am to have 2 jobs and a good life is enough for me.
