An Inspired Chat with Dr Jackee Shu of Brentwood

Dr Jackee Shu shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jackee, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
I’ve felt the deepest sense of being loved—many times—after meditation. Because it didn’t come from anyone else, I never questioned whether I deserved it. It simply was. Over the years, I’ve explored many forms of meditation, each offering something unique. But it was Dr. Joe Dispenza’s meditations that created the most profound shift. There’s something about the way they bridge neuroscience, emotion, consciousness and quantum physics that inspired deep unfolding of personal truth within me

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Before moving to Nashville, I spent most of my life in the heart of Manhattan — immersed in the fast-paced world of corporate finance. As a CPA and MBA, I worked in SEC financial reporting for publicly traded companies across investment banking, infrastructure, fashion, airline, and restaurant industries. It was a life that looked impressive on paper — long hours, constant deadlines, late-night gym sessions, and a “healthy” lifestyle that matched the city’s relentless rhythm.
But beneath the surface, things started to unravel. I became very ill and was diagnosed with several incurable conditions.

In the midst of exhausting doctors’ visits and monthly blood work, I came across Spontaneous Healing and Dr. Kelly Turner’s research on Radical Remission. Their work sparked something in me — a belief that healing was possible. I began to advocate for my own health, changing physicians, diving into research, and embracing a holistic approach. Through consistent acupuncture, meditation (recommended by a remarkable New York physician), and mindful changes in nutrition and lifestyle, I experienced something extraordinary: every diagnosis was reversed.

That experience transformed my life. It inspired me to follow a calling that felt deeply aligned — becoming a Doctor of Acupuncture.

Today, I’m passionate about paying it forward as a happily practicing acupuncturist. My greatest joy is helping people discover that their bodies are intelligently designed with the incredible capacity to heal — and that thriving is absolutely possible.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
It wasn’t one big ‘aha!’ moment — it was a trail of tiny sparks, each one nudging me toward a new way of seeing the world. I learned to move through life with curiosity instead of rushing to conclusions.
It mainly started with the health challenges, diagnoses I just couldn’t accept. It sent me down a rabbit hole in search of healing — mind, body, and soul. And along the way, I discovered something unexpected: the answers we’re taught to memorize in school, the ones that make us excel on tests, don’t prepare us for life’s real challenges.
The real lessons come from asking smart questions, exploring the unknown, and daring to wonder, take risks, own the consequences, and course correct if needed.
That journey profoundly reshaped everything — the way I think, the way I heal, and the way I show up in the world.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Get to know your truth — and learn what it feels like in your body when something truly aligns. That deep, instinctive “yes” you feel in your gut? That’s your intuition speaking. It’s your inner compass, your built-in superpower — and no one can take it from you.

Trust it. Nurture it. Let it guide you.

And while you journey forward, take time to savor the gift of being alive. Every breath, every sunrise, every ordinary moment is something extraordinary. Somewhere in the world, someone is taking their very first breath, while another releases their last — a gentle reminder of how precious this in-between space we call living truly is.

Life is fragile — but it’s also endlessly beautiful. When you live in tune with your truth and intuition, you begin to experience it all more deeply: the gratitude, the joy, and the quiet knowing that you are exactly where you’re meant to be.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
We live in a world that’s constantly chasing the next big thing — the newest diet, the latest “miracle” supplement, or a trending label on packaged foods that promises to be natural, sugar-free, gut-friendly, etc.

To me, these are what I call fads — waves that everyone suddenly jumps on, from social media influencers to food companies. And while some trends can bring awareness to better choices, it’s important to pause and look deeper.

Whenever a product or diet starts popping up everywhere, that’s your cue to slow down and read the ingredient list. Take a moment to ask: Where is this food coming from? How was it processed? A quick YouTube search can even turn into your own “mini chemistry, anatomy or biology class,” helping you understand what you’re putting in your body enhances or hinders your health.

Because real wellness isn’t built on what’s trending — it’s built on what’s true for you.

That’s what I call a foundational shift — the moment you decide to honor your body and your non-negotiables. It’s choosing integrity over convenience, nourishment over noise, and long-term vitality over short-term promises.

When you find what genuinely resonates with your body — what feels aligned and balanced — it doesn’t matter whether it’s a “fad” or not. What matters is that it supports your health from the inside out.

Remember when cigarette smoking was once considered glamorous and “healthy”? That was a fad, too — until a foundational shift in awareness revealed the truth.

Your body always knows what it needs. Sometimes, it just takes a little quiet and curiosity to hear it.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes — living and working in Manhattan was everything I thought I wanted. I loved the energy, the food, the art, the endless opportunities to stay busy and engaged. It was stimulating, exciting… and yet, quite unfulfilling.

Looking back, I realize I was chasing meaning through motion — using “intellectual pursuits” to fill a space that only purpose could. I was helping drive other people’s agendas in a city of concrete, where nature and stillness were hard to find.

And that’s when my health began to unravel — as if life itself was trying to wake me up.

It did.

That wake-up call led me here — to a life rooted in balance, healing, and authenticity. A life that finally feels aligned with who I truly am.
