We recently had the chance to connect with Emily Michael and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Emily , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I am laughing always so that’s not new here. However I was a recipient of Marquis Who’s Who award in spring of 2025 ! It was a total shock to me and I’m extremely proud. They honor people within the business world. Marquis Who’s Who is a U.S. publisher that creates biography type profiles for professionals in different career fields and awarding those at the top of their industry. So that has been a very proud moment for me.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi friends ! My name is Emily Michael. I am a passionate salon owner, hairstylist, and makeup artist who has built my career on kindness and creativity . I strive for making every client feel seen and create a welcoming space where beauty is truly for everyone. I am dedicated to my craft and the community I have built has earned me three business awards. In 2023 & 2024 “Best of hair salon – Franklin “ and a 2025 Marquis “ Who’s Who” along with features in several interviews for magazines . For me it’s never JUST about hair or makeup—it’s about helping people feel confident, loved, and completely themselves.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I think our world is ever-changing, and that’s shaped how I see everything. In my lifetime 9/11 occurred and I remember the feeling on 9/12/2001 of mourning and loss but at the same time togetherness & bonding. The way we as humans showed up for others in their time of need. I think we need more of that showing up for others . I could say the same for when the Covid pandemic occurred. Humans need other humans. We need to show up for each other because those feelings and experiences happen to us all.
It’s never defined me .. the bad things that can happen in the world. the end of the day, we’re all human—we all go through things, we all have our struggles. I think we all deserve grace, kindness, and love, both for ourselves and for each other. Life will always have hard moments, but it doesn’t have to be a hard life.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that’s held me back the most is comparison—the fear of not being good enough, or that someone else is better. It can be like a little devil on your shoulder, whispering in your ear and making you doubt yourself. But I’ve learned that comparison only steals your joy. Instead, I try to celebrate everyone’s strengths without letting them make me feel small. More than one thing can be true—I can be amazing with people and also amazing at hair coloring or cutting. There’s room for all of us to shine.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, in so many ways, the public version of me is really me. But I also think, as humans, we all tend to hide the harder parts, right? We love to share the good—the joys, the celebrations, the wins. And that’s beautiful. But I’m also okay with the moments when I feel defeated or tired. It’s a Monday morning and absolutely nothing is going my way. We’ve all had those moments. I think that should be more normalized, because those moments are just as real and important as the highlights.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Yes, absolutely. My career and my work have always come naturally to me. I’ve put in the long hours and dedicated myself to learning and perfecting my craft, but it’s never felt forced—it’s just who I am. I’ve always known I was blessed with a passion for people and for the art of hair. No one told me I should do it, and no one pushed me into it. The love I have for what I do has always been there, and I feel so grateful to live out that plan from God everyday.
