We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jill Sublett. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Jill, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I feel a lot of people are struggling with ways to cope with everything going on in the world right now. I am pretty open about my thoughts, struggles and fears. I feel like our purpose in life is to help others, so I hope I can do that as much as I can along the way and also encourage others to speak about their experiences.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I started with The Bad Mood Bakery in 2021 taking a leap in a business I knew little about. I am so fortunate to have had a wonderful experience and mentor through Bailey Foster, the founder and owner of Real Good Kitchen and the Real Good Foundation. Now I work with her, and I have branched out into other artistic ventures that have helped me grow and expand my career as an artist.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My uncle John has always supported me as an artist. I didn’t consider myself one until recently, but he always gave me great advice, art supplies and encouraged me to keep going. He is an amazing artist and when I was little, I thought I wanted to be like him when I grew up.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I always have had the fear of failing. For me, it’s the fear of screwing up and it effecting someone else that bothers me the most. I wish I could say that’s gotten better, but it still rings true to this day. I am an empath and I am definitely hard on myself when things don’t go the right way.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My friends would definitely say kindness. I can’t emphasize enough how important that is to treat people with compassion and kindness. Many people say “You don’t know what other people are going through, be kind” and I try to live by that. Life can be really hard, and we need to do the best we can to make a difference in people’s lives.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would really love to stop worrying so much! I know how bad it is for your health-I try to do all the things to not worry, but I still wake up at night thinking about solving all the problems!
