We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jordan DePaul. Check out our conversation below.
Jordan , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Well, I got a puppy a few months ago, so my first 90 minutes is all him, mostly (haha). But usually after I take him out and feed him, he passes out on my lap for about 30 minutes while I either check my email or get some morning Nintendo Switch in. Once he wakes up, I’ll go jog a few miles then take him for a walk before I shower and get in front of the computer.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jordan DePaul and I’m a singer-songwriter originally from Youngstown, Ohio. If you’ve discovered me in the last few years, you know me as LVRBOY, the hopeless over-romantic, Indie Pop artist based out of Nashville, TN. LVRBOY was an idea that came to fruition once I moved back to Nashville from NYC. . A failed relationship sent me into a spiral and, to be completely transparent, it consumed me. I wanted listeners to not just feel what I was feeling through my music, but through the way I presented myself. So, with that, I just let myself sink deeper into my feelings and LVRBOY was born- the place you could go for sad, love songs.
My April 2024 album, “Jordan,” was a departure from the subject matter listeners had come to expect from a LVRBOY record. With songs like “cheering from the bleachers” – a song about my late father, and “16” – a song about simpler times growing up, it became apparent that I had some other feelings that needed to be addressed. I was feeling like Jordan, again.
In March 2025 I began teaching myself to produce and began recording my first ever, self-produced project. It’s a Jordan DePaul album (that my first time saying it to anyone outside of my inner circle haha). It’s a lot more organic, singer-songwriter. I just missed myself. First single releases end of September.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the most about work. Growing up, if something had to get done, my parents just did it (if it was yard work, my dad did it and made me do it with him). They instilled the mentality, “nothing good comes for free.” So even when things get extremely tough, I just hear my dad saying, “gotta do it.”
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Up until about a year ago, the thought of giving up would pop into my head every couple months. The existential dread is still something I encounter on a day to day basis, but I continue to push forward because I see the end goal and believe I’m meant to achieve it. Something that Michael Hardy (HARDY) said in an interview once really stuck with me. “You have to be a little crazy to do what we do.” And he was right. I’ve been doing music for 15+ years, give or take, and although I have a great network of people around me who believe in me, I’ve been asked by others “when are you gonna give up?” And the answer is- never. Because even if no one else sees it or believes it. I see it. I believe it. And that’s all that matters to me these days.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
If we’re talking the public on the Internet, then kind of. Unless they’re reading into every little detail of my music catalogue, then they’re getting the synopsis without the full body of work. I think for a long time, I didn’t know what the real version of me was. As artists, we want to share our stories with whoever will listen. But I think the popularity and success of Tik Tok made a lot of us start second-guessing ourselves and our art, consequentially adhering to what we thought the Internet wanted and trying on different masks. I fully believe “there’s only one you. There’s a reason you’re still doing it. And no one is going to be able to do EXACTLY what YOU do. Be authentic. Be yourself. That’s where the magic is.” So whenever I emerge from my studio cocoon and start publicly sharing myself again, I may not be the perfect butterfly, but I’ll be a butterfly.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Well, this is quite fitting. I’ve been thinking a lot about this because, in just 10 years, I’ll be the age my dad was when he passed away. In coming to that realization, I told myself, “if the next music is the last music I were to ever release, what would I want to say? What would I want it to be? How would I want it to sound?” So the thing would I stop doing immediately- I did do. And that’s listening to what other people wanted me to do or say, or sound like. This record is me. A collection of songs that I can listen to 10 years from now and still love. Funny enough, I’ve often referred to it as “My Legacy Album.”
