Julie Walton Garland shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Julie, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something that brings me joy, especially during these summer months, is spending quality time with my family – especially bike rides to our favorite local spots at the Factory at Franklin, spontaneous kitchen dance parties with the kids and quiet evenings catching up with my husband. Those little everyday moments have been extra sweet lately with the slower pace of summer time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Julie Walton Garland, and I’m proud to be part of the third generation behind Walton’s Jewelry, our family-owned and operated antique and estate jewelry store located in Historic Downtown Franklin, Tennessee. I grew up in the business watching my grandmother and father build lasting relationships with clients, and that same spirit of warmth and trust continues to guide us today.
At Walton’s, we specialize in antique and estate pieces – particularly pre-1940’s jewelry – that carry stories, craftsmanship, and charm you just can’t find in modern pieces. What makes us unique is our deep-rooted history, our commitment to preserving the past, and the personal connections we build with every client who walks through our doors.
Right now, we’re especially focused on sharing the stories behind the jewelry – through curated collections, educational content, and community events that celebrate the artistry and heritage of each piece. It’s an exciting time and I’m honored to carry our legacy forward in a way that feels both timeless and fresh.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was as a little girl in our family jewelry store, standing behind the counter “helping” my dad. I remember feeling important – like I was part of something bigger than myself. Even then, I understood that connection, kindness and being trusted had real power.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: You don’t have it have it all figured out right now – trust your instincts and stay curious. With dedication and determination, know that every step, even the uncertain ones, is leading you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is meaningful connection – whether it’s with family, friends, my team or the community. They’d probably also mention my deep love for tradition and sentimentality, a good story and making people feel seen and valued. And they’d definitely say I care a lot about doing things with heart and integrity.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I led with heart – that I made others feel seen, valued, and loved. That I honored my family’s legacy while creating a space for growth and change. That I showed up for my community, gave generously, and lived with integrity. And that I found joy in the little things and shared it freely.
