An Inspired Chat with Justin Brickler

We recently had the chance to connect with Justin Brickler and have shared our conversation below.

Justin, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I often lose track of time when I go for an evening walk or run. On a nice afternoon in the park, an hour or two can slip by without me noticing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My journey as a photographer began six years ago with a film camera in hand, wandering city streets and learning to see the world in a new light. What started as a quiet hobby soon became something more. Friends and family began inviting me to document their milestones, from graduations to engagements. Over time, I realized my true calling was capturing weddings, where artistry and emotion intertwine.

During the pandemic, I paused to ask myself, ‘How serious am I about this?’ A few days of reflection reminded me that our gifts create their own space when we nurture them. I committed fully, trusting the process, investing in my craft, and staying open to possibility. That decision changed everything. Since then, I’ve poured myself into creating work that is intentional and deeply personal photographs that let couples relive their wedding day exactly as it felt.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think bonds between people often break when there’s a lack of presence. When communication fades, trust erodes or shared moments get replaced by distractions. We start to miss the small things that keep us connected.

I believe intentionality can restore those bonds, if a person chooses that path. You have to be fully present, create space for vulnerability and try to reach anyone. As a wedding photographer I get to see that the strongest connections come from shared experiences where people feel seen, valued, and understood. Whether it’s a candid laugh between friends or a quiet exchange between partners, those moments remind us why the bond existed in the first place.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Of course, I honestly have this feeling every other month. It’s not easy to show up for yourself consistently when you are trying to grow a business, create art and make new connections.

To reach new heights and to live a fulfilled life you have to embrace the challenges and struggles. The exciting part of life is knowing that you overcame life’s challenges.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
One truth I rarely articulate, but that shapes almost everything I do, is that presence is the greatest gift you can give someone. Whether in my personal life or in photography, I believe being fully there, listening, noticing and valuing the moment is what deepens connection and creates meaning.

Another is that your unique perspective matters. I’ve learned that leaning into your own voice and vision without constantly measuring it against others opens doors you didn’t know existed. Both truths guide how I live and work, but they’re so ingrained that I don’t often stop to name them.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m able to travel and experience new cultures, food and conversations. My curiosity is what leads my through life, and I tend to find peace in exploring the things people read about in books.
