We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kate Ming. Check out our conversation below.
Kate, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A Normal Day for Me Right Now
Right now, my days mostly revolve around two things — editing and taking care of my newborn. Mornings start early with the baby, and those first few hours are usually all about feedings, diaper changes, and trying to squeeze in some coffee.
Once things settle down, I jump into editing. Some days that means working on a new project or polishing up something for a client; other days it’s just catching up on emails or planning what’s next. I’ve learned to work in short bursts — whenever the baby naps or things are quiet.
Evenings are my time to slow down and spend time with my family. It’s a busy season, but it’s also a really special one. Balancing work and a newborn isn’t always easy, but I’m grateful I get to do both — creating and being a mom at the same time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Kate, and I’m a travel wedding photographer based just outside of Nashville. I love capturing real moments the laughter, the tears, and all the little in-between moments that tell each couple’s story.
What makes my work special is the connection I build with the people I photograph. I want every image to feel genuine and true to who they are. Traveling to new places and meeting amazing couples from all over has been such a gift.
Right now, I’m also a new mom, so life looks a little different these days! Balancing work and motherhood has been a big learning experience, but it’s helped me slow down and appreciate every moment something I also bring into my photography.
I’m excited for what’s ahead new weddings, new adventures, and continuing to grow as both a photographer and a mom.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
Who taught you the most about work?
My mom definitely taught me the most about work. She’s one of the hardest-working people I know and has always led by example. She showed me what it means to stay dedicated, to care about the details, and to give your best even when things get hard. Watching her balance so much with grace and determination has really shaped the way I approach both my business and my life.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self:
I’d tell her to never give up and to always be herself. There will be ups and downs, but staying true to who you are and trusting your path will take you exactly where you’re meant to be.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
In photography, there are always new trends — editing styles, poses, colors, you name it. I’ve learned to step back and ask myself if something actually feels true to the story I’m trying to tell or if it’s just what’s popular right now.
Fads come and go, but real shifts change the way we see and connect. If something helps me capture emotion more honestly or makes my work feel more real and timeless, then I know it’s worth holding onto. At the end of the day, staying true to my style and my couples always matters more than chasing what’s trending.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m at home with my husband and daughter. Those quiet moments together—whether we’re just sitting, talking, or watching our little one discover new things—are what ground me and remind me what really matter
