An Inspired Chat with Keith Josiah

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Keith Josiah. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Keith, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Probably the emotional relationship between me and my family. It’s been really heartwarming to see me and my grandad heal parts of each other as recent years have gone by.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Keith Josiah painter, newly poet, Founder of Second Kings Company. Lead Curator for Second Kings Sound.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think not having a dad set me on a path of wanting to be the man that I never had, the dad I always wanted, it honestly fuels a desire to be something beyond normal. For a long time part of me felt like it I made a certain amount of money or excelled in my talents that eventually I would somehow earn my dad coming into my life. It honestly made me a giver and someone who wanted to make sure other people never felt the loneliness I felt but ultimately i cared a lot of hurt, resentment and trust issues and fear of abandonment that after a while it was just time to let go of

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
Drawing and music for sure

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
I honestly don’t think so. People get things wrong about me so often that I’m not quite sure what image I give off but it’s definitely not who I am. I do have to take responsibility in the fact that I am a closed off person and I do carefully pick the things that I do share with people. But I also think that a lot times it’s so much easier to just paint a picture of someone and credit yourself as “getting them” as opposed to really taking the time to understand someone

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
Probably believing in myself sooner
