We’re looking forward to introducing you to Keymaya Butler. Check out our conversation below.
Keymaya, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Yes, there have been times when I’ve been glad I didn’t act fast. Sometimes our first impulse is based on emotion, pressure, or fear, and slowing down allowed me to really see people’s intentions and make a wiser decision. Waiting showed me that things I thought I wanted weren’t actually aligned with me, and it protected me from unnecessary stress or regret.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Keymaya “Intutai” Butler, and I am a Nashville-based artist, visionary, and creative storyteller. Through my music and my brand ecosystem which includes IntuVerse (astrology and spiritual education) and Talkz with Tu (my podcast platform), I combine creativity, healing, and legacy building.
What makes my work unique is that I do not just create music for entertainment. Every song, project, and visual is a ritual and a story. My recent release Crown Her Edition honors my late grandmother and uplifts women who are surviving or fighting cancer, while my earlier collaboration with John Early Middle School brought students together in community empowerment. I use my gifts to ignite, heal, and build, and that framework shapes everything I do.
My goal is to show people that art can be more than just expression, it can be transformation.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My grandmother and grandfather saw me clearly before I could see myself. They always recognized my light, my gifts, and the bigger purpose I was meant to carry, even when I was still trying to figure it out. The way they supported me and believed in me gave me a foundation of strength and love that I continue to build on today.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up. In June 2023, I was an innocent bystander and got shot in both my legs. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually, it was one of the hardest battles of my life, and I questioned if I even wanted to keep going. But instead of letting it break me, I used that pain as fuel to stand taller in my purpose, to keep creating, and to build movements like Fix My Crown that remind others not to give up either.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the music industry tells itself is that image and trends matter more than truth. Too often, real stories and voices get overlooked because they don’t fit into what’s “marketable.”
That success only looks like fame, charts, or numbers. The industry often ignores the fact that real impact comes from how deeply you touch people’s lives, not just how many streams you get.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was someone who used my voice and my gifts to heal, uplift, and transform. That I turned my pain into power, and left behind more than music I left a movement that reminded people of their own crown, their own resilience, and their own purpose. I want the story to be that I honored my family, carried my ancestors with me, and built something that will keep inspiring generations long after I am gone.
