An Inspired Chat with Nisha

Nisha shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Nisha, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Outside of work, I’m soaking up every moment with my seven-month-old twin girls. Becoming a mom has changed how I see the world — it’s brought a new layer of patience, creativity, and appreciation for connection. They remind me to slow down, be present, and find beauty in small moments. That same sense of wonder shows up in my art now; every swirl or floral pattern feels like a celebration of new life and love.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Nisha, the artist behind Henna Nashville. I specialize in custom, all-natural henna and jagua designs for weddings, personal sessions, parties, and corporate events. I’ve been creating body art for over 15 years, and I love using traditional art forms — henna and jagua — to bring people together through culture, creativity, and self-expression.

My brand is built on the belief that henna and jagua are more than just body art — it’s a form of storytelling, self-expression, and celebration. Every design I create is unique to the person wearing it, inspired by their energy, their story, and what they want to express. I hand-mix my own organic henna paste and jagua gel to ensure everything I use is safe, natural, and made with intention.

Nashville has such a vibrant, creative community, and I love bringing a piece of this ancient art into the city’s modern, diverse energy. Whether it’s a bride wanting to make her big day more special, a group of friends celebrating a milestone, a corporate team exploring culture through art, or someone simply treating themselves to something beautiful — I love that henna and jagua create moments of connection, joy, and confidence. I also work with clients who are experiencing hair loss, cancer treatments, or other health challenges, and it’s incredibly meaningful to help them reconnect with their beauty and confidence through art. For me, it’s not just about creating designs on skin — it’s about creating healing, empowering moments that remind people of their strength and self-worth.

Lately, I’ve been focusing on expanding beyond traditional events — offering more personalized sessions, creative collaborations, and themed henna experiences that reflect Nashville’s artistic spirit. And on a personal note, I recently became a mom to twin girls, which has added a whole new layer of inspiration and gratitude to both my art and my life.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Growing up, I thought creativity had to look a certain way — that art was something you made on paper or in a frame, and that success meant following a clear path. Over time, I’ve learned that art can live anywhere — on skin, in stories, in connection, and even in the quiet, messy parts of life. Through henna and jagua, I’ve discovered that beauty comes from authenticity, not perfection.

I used to believe I had to have everything figured out before taking the next step, but now I trust the process — just as I do when I create a design. It unfolds one line at a time, and somehow, it always becomes what it’s meant to be. That mindset has shaped not only my art, but also who I am as a person, an artist, and a mother.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to trust yourself and flow with life. Every moment, every twist, every turn carries meaning, even if you can’t see it yet. Stay positive, keep your heart open, and listen to your intuition — your inner guidance always knows the way. Have faith in the journey, and everything will unfold exactly as it’s meant to.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say yes — the public version of me is real, but it’s also the side of myself I choose to share. I try to show the calm, positive, and connected energy that I bring to my art and life. Of course, there are private moments of reflection and growth that only I experience, but the heart of who I am — my creativity, my spirit, and my intention — is always genuine.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating — whether it’s henna, sketching designs, or exploring new ways to bring art to life.. There’s something meditative about the process: focusing on each line, connecting with the person or environment I’m working with, and letting the design flow naturally. I also feel deeply at peace when I’m with my twin girls, watching them explore the world, or simply sitting quietly and listening to my intuition. Those moments remind me to be present, to trust the journey, and to find beauty in the little things.
