We recently had the chance to connect with Tessa Alexander Helberg and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tessa Alexander, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
In November of last year, my husband and I welcomed our baby boy, Jordan! He’s an absolute joy to be around. Although it was tough at first to balance photography and motherhood, I eventually found a good rhythm. I truly love both of my jobs and feel so grateful to be living this life.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a wedding photographer from California who made the move to Tennessee about four years ago, and I haven’t looked back since! My husband, our little boy, and I have fallen in love with the beautiful city of Franklin and everything that comes with it. I’ve always been an artist at heart. Whether I’m painting something special for my son’s room or snapping photos of my family in the backyard, creating is just a part of who I am.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was and will always be an artist. There has never been a question.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were times in the beginning when I really doubted myself. I had left behind my client base and all the resources I’d built back in California, and starting over felt intimidating and unfamiliar. But I made it through and I’m so glad I did!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
100%! I am who I am. Although I may have a more polished professional side of myself when I am working.. I am still very much myself.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I loved what I did for a living! I made sure my time was never wasted in anything I’ve done. From being a daughter, wife, mother, and photographer.. I loved it all.
