We’re looking forward to introducing you to Caryn Dixon. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Caryn, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are spent going through my social channels and replying to comments, as well as checking my emails and responding to anything that came in the day before or overnight.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Caryn Dixon, a Country/Americana artist originally from Pennsylvania and now based in Nashville, Tennessee. I just released my first EP, Bird In A Cage, which tells the story of finding freedom and strength after feeling trapped by life’s circumstances.
I come from a big family as the oldest of seven kids, and I’m also a mom of two, so balancing motherhood and music has taught me how to lead, organize, and create with heart. I’m completely independent, having built my own team from the ground up—content creators, writers, social media managers, and marketing professionals—so I essentially function as my own label.
What makes my brand special is the blend of raw honesty and storytelling that runs through everything I do, whether it’s a song, a music video, or my cooking-meets-music series Chef-Ish. I want people to feel seen, inspired, and reminded that it’s never too late to rebuild your life and chase what you love.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think what breaks the bonds between people is often a lack of honesty and empathy, when we stop listening to one another or start hiding behind pride, fear, or hurt. Life has a way of hardening us if we let it. I’ve seen that in relationships, in family dynamics, and even in the music industry.
What restores those bonds is vulnerability and grace. When someone is brave enough to be real, to admit when they’re wrong, to forgive, and to share their story, it opens the door back up. That’s a big part of what I try to do through my music. Growing up as the oldest of seven and now raising two kids of my own, I’ve learned that connection takes humility, patience, and love that shows up even when it’s hard.
For me, writing and sharing songs is one way of rebuilding those bridges. Music reminds us we’re not alone, and sometimes, that reminder is all it takes to start healing what’s been broken.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was definitely a time I almost gave up. I thought being a good mom meant giving up on my dreams because some people told me I couldn’t have both. For a while, I believed them. I tried to fit into that box, but I lost a piece of myself in the process.
Eventually, I realized that pursuing my passion doesn’t take away from my kids. It shows them what’s possible. That shift changed everything for me. Now, I get to lead by example and prove you don’t have to choose between motherhood and your professional passions. You can have both.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the industry tells itself is that you need a label or a major platform to make an impact. I’ve learned that the real power comes from authenticity and connection, not gatekeepers.
There’s also this unspoken belief that you have to fit into a certain mold to “make it…”a certain sound, look, or lifestyle. But audiences are smarter than that. They connect with what’s real.
As an independent artist who built my own team and carved out my own path, I’ve seen firsthand that you don’t need permission to build something meaningful. You just have to be willing to do the work, stay true to your voice, and believe that your story matters.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
Honestly, when I am hiking in the woods. I love the sounds of nature, and I love feeling close to what grounds me. Fresh air, trees, water. It’s where I love to be.
